You're right, FT's cannot take BA traits, only their own or codex ones - it also says this in the Angel Exemplar stratagem. Some of the standard SM ones are pretty nice though, like Imperium's sword for S8 on the charge. If you do with a power fist, you get S8 AP3 innately, or you can go for a hammer and be D3 basic.

You also can't take a ss and a relic blade together on a captain

Only a Vanguard veteran Sergeant for some reason can do that

Huh.

You couldn't in the 7th or 8th ed books and I just assumed it was the same.
