So I'm looking to buy a dreadnought. My question is which one would I get the most use out of. The redemptor seems solid, but so does the venerable. Moreover, if I get a venerable it's going to be a converted redemptor chassis (more realistic size profile). So I guess it would allow me to play it as either. But which is generally a better choice?

I think I would go for Redemptor. While the BS/WS 2+ and 6+++ of the Ven Dread is nice, the Redemptor brings a lot of firepower and wounds for its points. My favoured layout is Macro Plasma Incinerator, Onslaught Gatling Cannon, 2 Stormbolters and an Icarus missile pod.

However, optimal loadouts may change so magnets are your friend.

Just as a side note, I am giving serious consideration to the Contemptor. 9W and a 5++ is pretty decent and it can carry a Multi-melta which seems to be the new black as far as 9th edition is concerned.

The plasma/onslaught/icarus/storm bolter redemptor is my favorite. I want to paint one red and slap a Swiss army logo on it, it’s that useful and adaptable.

It will keep good time, but wont take sides in battle
