lucien
Hi there, I am a very long-time lurker since Codex Angels of Death 2nd Edition. I am also by default a long-time collector. As my forum name suggests I was inspired to collect the 1st Legion by Deathwing (the short story by William King) and have been a loyal, if somewhat distracted, Dark Angel ever since. Three things have brought me back to the hobby. First my twelve year old son, who shares an interest obsession with Star Wars has got into Star Wars Legion and we have started to paint again. It's been a joy to show and teach him modelling tips and techniques and watch him rapidly improve. He got into the modelling because he saw some of my old firstborn army on display and discovered more in the loft, mostly unpainted (along with guard, Dogs of War, Orcs Goblins and Dwarves!). Subsequently he has started to delve into 40k law and has been raised to believe (correctly) that the 1st legion are the best. He doesn't know about the Horus Heresy and what happened yet, lol. In that sense he is a real initiate and not yet a member of the inner circle. He just thinks we are cool. Of course he is right but I look forward to his induction Second my inspiration for the hobby comes from this forum. Thank you. There have been so many high quality blogs on here with freely shared tips that I feel compelled to give it another go. Third lockdown has made me evaluate what is important in life, as it has for many, and I want to do more of what I enjoy and spend more time doing stuff with my family that makes us all happy. (Well half of us. Wife and daughter not so much but they appreciate the art and I get big Dad points for keeping son and myself off computer games ) I could quite reasonably do all this without telling you and I have tried to do this several times in the last few years and not sustained it. During which time I accumulated not so much a Pile of Shame but more of a Mountain of Mortification (MoM). I like collecting new models even if I haven't painted what I've got because they are new and shiny and look great on the numerous aforementioned blogs. I am not the only one with a MoM, I know, but it's something I'm not proud of and want to do something about. I've concluded that I need support and encouragement ( and maybe a visit to cell 42 from time to time) to keep me going. So it is, brothers and sisters of the Rock, to this forum that I submit my penitence in a slightly unusual format. I will do the following to enable me to still collect the new stuff whilst addressing the old. For every new model I paint I will fix/update/repair/paint an old one. This way I get to reduce the MoM whilst still enjoying the new stuff. Here is my first project. A new easy to build Redemptor and an old robed marine that fell apart carrying an old white metal heavy bolter. It never fitted correctly so I have decided to remake him an ordinary veteran with a bolter. I'll repurpose the heavy bolter on another marine. Wish me luck. I hope to update you soon. (Edit: Sorry about the small picture. I'm new to this and will try to make them bigger and better lit with experience) Edited February 16, 2021 by lucien mooftak, Berzul, Brother Ramael and 1 other 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/369060-new-for-old-luciens-dark-angels/ Share on other sites

lucien
Current W.I.P The marine who originally held a heavy bolter needed a rethink as a normal bolter holding pose would have obscured the little detail that there is. So I gave him two chainswords. I plan to make one of them in an Iron Warriors pattern with Hazard stripes. His back story will be that he took it after killing a IW marine in close combat during Abbadons 13th black crusade on Cadia, whilst still a heavy bolter devastator. He has since earned veteran status and serves withthe 5th company. I am also working on giving him his bolt pistol back as I cut it off him originally to make the heavy bolter pose work. Think he may need a couple of frag grenades at his belt too. The easy to build dreadnought detail is really a practice exercise to get me back into remembering old techniques and practicing new ones with things such as contrast paints. I know most of the sarcophagus will be covered but I have a fully poseable one from the combat patrol box that I want to do justice to when I'm feeling more confident. lucien
A little update. The basic colours are on. Robes on the marine are done. Hazard stripes were painful. Next on the list is power armour highlights and shading. I'm at the stage after the Nuln oil has gone on and been recovered by base colour minus recesses and darker areas. Still learning with t he camera so excuse my poor photos. Any c and c welcome. lucien
A mini update. Sorry for the slow progress. Looking at the photos just highlights more errors to clean up! lucien
Almost there! Another WIP shot. Hopefully the last one before they are finished. Marine is more or less done and the Redemptor is coming along ok. The base took way longer than I anticipated. Mainly because I was using it to practice techniques for shading, washing and drybrushing.
