Custode Model Confusion

I don't understand the difference between:

 

Vexilus Prartor box of troops

 

and 

 

the Cuatodian Guard Squad box?

One has axes, the other one has shield. Also one has robes, the other one doesn't. Unless you don't need SS, a box of wardens can be used as regular guard/adrathite guard/pythrite guard.

On the website neither of them has robes. those are other kits. 

they both have the std bearer guy and it looks like they have a mix of sword and spears? 

One seems to have a captain holding a sword? but both have the std bearer?

 

Edit: there is also a shield captain box that seems to be the same except no std bearer. 

 

I guess I don't understand why there are three boxes with the same guys?

The custodian guard box comes with 5 dudes and the parts for a standard and a captain.

It is listed multiple times so people aren't confused about where they can find the captain/vexilla

Iirc, it's the same box, but people can search by unit.

As others said above, there aren't 3 boxes. It's the one Custodian Guard box that can be used to make regular Custodians, a Shield Captain, and/or Vexilus Praetor.

Custodes have way fewer actual boxes than are listed on the website, but each are displayed as multiple ones to aid finding the unit. I've broken them all down by box name vs display name below.

Thanks for this. I knew they were the same but this was the first time I've seen them typed out. Happy to find it over 2 years after you wrote this. I had to make an account here just to give you a thumbs up.
