Your terrain collection making me jealous as heck. Especially WoM which i want for a long time!

Thanks. I’ve built it up over 2 decades but things like the wom I got on the recent Mto as for baffling reasons gw seems to sell hardly any terrain anymore. Your post made me realise I never posted pics of the Mechanicus stuff post-spray.

Couldn’t help myself and picked up the relic shield captain. Saved the arms for a planned future project and raided the BT bits box, so now my assault intercessors have a boss man leading the charge.

Looks fitting. If there's scope for re-positioning, I'm wondering if the shield could do with being "opened up"? (i.e. following a line more parallel to that of the front of his face)

Thanks for the input. I used a Templar sword bro crusader arm that is quite tight to the body so yes it is quite tight (tilt plate difficult to see too) I’m thinking a slice of green stuff might just do the trick rather than finding a different arm. Also (hard to see at this angle) I could position it so he is looking over the shield rather than blocking view.

Small update on the cap. I adjusted the shoulder and am happier with the overall look, just looks a bit unnatural as the elbow is bent and the shoulder pushed out. I may revisit after another rummage through the BT bits box to see if there’s a better fit.

On a larger scale my heresy style 40K alpha legion are coming to the fore. I braved the airbrush and a

spent about an hour spraying a contrast mix over silver base and I think it came out ok. Problem is despite my best efforts I didn’t hit them from underneath well enough so will need a second round of spraying before basing.

Took me a little while longer to get these guys done than expected as I resprayed them from beneath to get more complete coverage. 2000 points of 40K Alpha legion - plastic heresy stuff with some resin terminators / dreadnought / characters.

essentially run as:

Daemon prince

lord

terminator lord

apostle

master of executions

helbrute

5 terminator

3x 10 legionaries

1x 10 raptors

2x 5 chosen

2 x 5 havocs

I think you've got a cool "shields up" pose for the Captain currently, my only criticism would be that the hammer arm looks slightly awkward to me. I think it's a combination of how far up the hammer haft his hand is and how straight his arm is. Presumably he's meant to be mid swing (if not then feel free to ignore this suggestion), so I think it would look more natural if you could find an arm with a curve to it (think of a tennis player's forehand technique) and also having his hand at the bottom of the haft rather than halfway up (more leverage).

Another option could be to have a slightly more overhead pose with the arm, so it looks like a downward smash rather than a sideways one? That one might look more convincing and also probably easier to source a donor arm.

Test model for the alphas. Took less than an hour to get from the base-coated stage to this. It’s a simple paint job but I think looks decent enough.

Onto the next projects! I’m testing some bases out. Trench board theme. I think I’m happy with the one on the left and should be easy enough to replicate en masse. Painting through the last elements of my Templars and alaitoc while assembling some iron warriors.

Playing around with basing ideas for some 40K iron warriors to make use of the rest of the heresy stuff I’ve amassed. Thinking these bases would look good with iron warriors.

Test model done. Plenty of assembly and bases to go though. Hoping will be all set by end of the month. Thoughts? Took about an hour but could do faster in batches I’m sure.

Are those ... dinosaur jet-bikes ..?

The desert base for your Iron Warriors looks great. I take it the paints and pigments in the image were all that was necessary to achieve that effect? Did you use a texture paint as the basis, or something else?

Hi FDC - they are indeed dino Jetbikes. I’ve had 3 for years but finally acquired one more to make the squad of 6. I really must get better photos of them when the newbies are done as the only photo I have is so old they are on the older shape bases.

desert base was everything in the pic but I used Vallejo white pumice as the base substrate. Mixed in various small bits of stone / rock then plastered the mix on the base. Once dry painted with the dark earth air paint which went on a treat. Then drybrush  on ushabti and sprinkle over pigments with drops of water after. Very quick and easy. Main thing is drying time for the substrate.

Thanks. I've used Vallejo's Grey Pumice in the past and struggled to get a texture I was happy with (user error, I'm sure ) - yours looks great.

I’ve used the pumice to make desert bases differently before. These ones added in small stones and grit to add the extra dimensions to.

A brief exercise in batch painting. Spent an hour on the other 4 members of this squad last night and got them from almost basecoated (some touch ups) to here. So I estimate to get them to the same standard as test model about half an hour per model, which makes it achievable!!!

Got a 2k game in with them as well. Chosen with a master of executions were immense, lost by 5 points in the end but what a game! I’m thinking to round off the army further down the line with a couple of tanks and some bikes.
