Well-met brothers,

Decided to give my BT a reboot. I have realised edge highlighting was causing me not to paint, so have reverted to simple drybrushing (it's important to know one's limitations eh!). This will mean repainting the old stuff, but also some new purchases to keep it fresh. I also wanted to change the fluff as I wasn't happy with the last one.

So, without further ado: The Gemini Crusade!

Thanks both! Good to be hobbying again. :smile.:

He's going to be in black. With a fair bit of gold trim but the armour base colour black. I imagine his backstory he is a ruthless zealot, and doesn't about being the picture of a hero of legend.

Reclusiarch Gregor cut an impressive silhouette in his hulking Tactical Dreadnought Armour as he attended his ministerial duties. He disliked the title, 'Reclusiarch', and eschewed it in favour of simple Brother Gregor. A radical even by Black Templar standards, his teachings were considered dangerous in some corners of the Ecclesiarchy.

He believed a Templar's sword duty to the Imperial Creed was so absolute, that once a Crusade had been called, no Astartes should remove their armour until its goal is achieved, save in absolute medical necessity. That was why no member of the Gemini Crusade bore their face on the battlefield, and why he performed this service in his own suit. Deep in the bowels of the Strike Cruiser Massacre, he intoned words from ancient holy texts as his assembled battle brothers looked on, and as the ship itself continued to speed toward Terra.

Knight-Captain Alfonso received the summons from Terra in his usual, stoic manner. His helmeted face betrayed no emotion as he acknowledged and acquiesced to the order with a curt nod. Although the nature of the mission itself had not been revealed, he had been informed by the High Marshal that this would entail the launching of a new Crusade, and so Alfonso had put the Strike Cruiser Massacre on a war footing.

Alfonso's Strike Cruiser had long operated autonomously. Combined with his utter disregard for collateral damage and his radical interpretation of the Imperial Creed, his forces were bordering on rogue status. He trod the line between asset and liability, sometimes crossing it, but never for long. His ruthless efficacy made him a useful attack dog for the High Marshal, a role he was only too happy to play. He licked his lips at the thought of the slaughter to come.

Repainted a squad of Intercessors in the new scheme. I kind of like the scheme, it feels like it has a kind of stylised palate (completely by accident mind!).

Brother-Chaplain Ajax stood silent as the Strike Cruiser Massacre completed its translation back into real-space. The engines howled as the geller fields disengaged, and the sleek, black dart of a ship began the final leg of its journey to Terra.

"Holy Terra", he spoke at last, the sound rendered almost animalistic by his helm, "what secret should be so shameful that you summon us here. What dark thing have you awoken, that you need the Templars to bring squirming into the light." His musings ceased in an instant as Knight-Captain Alfonso approached. Ajax made the sign of the aquila, and was met in kind. Reclusiarch Gregor was present also.

Now at last they would learn what need the Imperium had of one of its most radical zealots.

Knight-Captain Alfonso and his retinue watched as the glittering boarding craft slid into the hangar of the Massacre. It was golden, and emblazoned with aquilas, and seemed to defy the normal awkward, brutish juddering of spacecraft coming in to dock. The Strike Cruiser had come into a high orbit around Terra, keeping well clear of the various laser and missile arrays. There they had received the instruction to prepare to be boarded by a detachment of Adeptus Custodes.

"Even their boarding craft have grace," murmured Sword Brother Rictus, standing in his hulking Gravis armour. The boltstorm gauntlets were not attached, as this was a meeting between allies, but his armour and helmet remained, as in line with Alfonso's radical sect of the Imperial Creed. Alfonso had also donned his Gravis armour when the call to Crusade had originally been made.

"Mind your admiration, Rictus," interjected the Knight-Captain, his voice like frozen steel, "even with all the gifts they could wish for from the God-Emperor himself, the Custodes ultimately failed Him. Their grace did not stop the Arch-Traitor." Both Chaplains growled at the mention of Horus, bile rising in their throats.

The craft came to rest, and the ramp lowered. Out walked three golden Adeptus Custodes Wardens.

"Now we will hear it."

The craft slid out of the hangar as smoothly as it had entered. The Wardens had been brought to the Knight-Captain's private sanctum, where they had spent many hours outlining the mandate for Crusade. Alfonso never spoke a word, until it finally came for the Wardens to depart, when he had simply said 'it will be done'.

Alfonso returned to his Chaplains as the craft departed. They knew better than to ask him what had been said. "Convene the Sword Brethren" he said, turning away from the departing boarding craft without another word.

Alfonso's Sword Brethren had convened in his sanctum within mere moments of his command. Anticipation hung thick in the air, which was already filled with swirling incense fumes and the acrid scent of oil and gunmetal. Alfonso was silent as the Brethren entered, until finally all were accounted for and the sanctum door slid shut with a hiss.

"Fellow Brothers of the Sword," he began at last, "we are charged with a most holy purpose." Already there were quiet murmurings of assent and agreement, such was the assembled Templars' eagerness. "The Custodes Wardens revealed to me that the High Marshal alone had been made aware of this mission, and that he chose the Templars of the Strike Cruiser Massacre himself. He chose us." The murmurings took on a higher pitch at the mention of the Chapter Master.

"And I believe he chose us because he knows we will do what must be done. He cannot command us to do it directly. But he has unleashed his warhounds with full knowledge of our beliefs, of our sect of the Creed." The rumbling in the room accelerated yet further.

"Brothers, the Wardens, through means they would not reveal, have become indisputably aware of the existence of a clone. A clone, they say, of the God-Emperor." There was an outcry at once as tensions finally boiled over. The holy indignation was palpable, and the Sword Brothers crowded closer, demanding the rest of it. "They don't know whether this clone is in the hands of loyalists, traitors, or even xenos." Cries of rage. "They want us to recover it back to Terra, back to the Palace."

"Brothers I have no intention of bringing that pretender anywhere near Holy Terra!" A roar of approval met Alfonso, the Sword Brethren beating their chest-plates. "There is only one God-Emperor, and he sits on the Golden Throne!" The Templars howled in agreement, shouts of 'No pity!' echoing around the chamber. "Brothers we will purge this warp-spawn in His name!

"Abhor the Witch! Destroy the Witch!"

The Gemini Crusade is launched at last! I will leave the fluff there, aside from adding a bit about this radical sect of the Imperial Creed, and Alfonso's particular style of warfare and the disposition of the Crusade.

Five more Templars join, Assault Intercessor Squad Hermes:
