It says to pick 3 models and their Grenades lose blast and has type Pistol 6. It doesn’t say replace their type grenade with pistol, just that it has Pistol, can they be both?

Now if they are still Grenades, can you only throw/shoot from 1 model per squad? Do they still benefit from the Putrifier?

If they are no longer Grenades, can you throw/shoot from 3 models in one squad? Do they no longer benefit from the Putrifier?

If they are both a pistol and a grenade, how do they interact with both the grenade rule and the Putrifier?

Edit: I think they lose grenade and become pistols, which means you can select 3 models from 1 unit and still throw a grenade from a 4th model. Then only the true grenade gets the bonus from the Putrifier. I say this because you are allowed to use them in engagement range, which pistols are allowed to do while grenades are not.

I agree with your edit comment.  Strat says they lose Blast and are Type Pistol 6.  I would interpret that as they are no longer grenade d6, they are Pistol6.  The Strat doesn't mention range, so they should still be 6 inch range, but only auto hit in engagement range.

The Biologist aura affects "Blight Grenades" units are equipped with.   The Start just changes the Type, the weapon is still a Blight Grenade so I think the aura still applies.

Note that the 3 models are "from your army" and do not need to be in the same unit.  In theory you could pick 3 models from 3 different squads and each squad could still throw a grenade.

This probably should get a FAQ clarification however as the rulebook as written says that only one model can use a grenade when its unit shoots.  The page is discussing Weapon Types therefore I think the intent of the rule is that only 1 model can use a weapon with weapon type grenade, ie the word "type" is implied.  For example, the rule on pistols states that pistols can be fired in engagement range, it doesn't say that weapons with Type Pistol can be used in engagement range.  As the Strat changes the weapon from type grenade to type pistol one model should still be able to use a weapon with type grenade.  Might be worth reviewing with your opponent pre-battle if you plan to make significant use of this.

You can still throw an additional grenade and all still benefit from grenade guy.

Basically the profile becomes:

Blight Grenade, Type: Pistol 6

The weapon is just called a blight grenade but is not a grenade, it’s a bit like the necron death ray, it is called a death ray but doesn’t actually cause much death (well in my experience anyway
