The Emperor's Champion is well-posed. I hope to see him completed soon. Don't forget to bloodstain his armor- maybe put a severed head and/or limb behind him, as a base decoration- to show he's preparing to fight the enemy warlord, after demonstrating his worth by killing the warlord's honor guards.

Jaxom: Yeah it works quite well and has a sense of martial focus.

Bjorn Firewalker: Thanks. Well I shall see what happens with the basing. The plan for now is get them all made then decide on a theme for the force.

Majkhel: Thanks I had fun making it. :smile.:

deathspectresgt7: Thanks mate, I'm still working on your guy. I'm trying to create an open pose so that you will be able to see the chest work so it will be fairly open armed in comparison to the guy above. I think have the basis for the wrist weapon now set in place as I'm basing it on the GK wrist storm bolter. I'll post pictures as soon as I have it locked down.

Markus_: Thanks mate. :smile.:

Well yet another distraction but this time an extremely welcome one. I came across Tortuga Bay by chance and found that they made truescale bodies and legs. I'm not a fan of using 3rd party parts, not out of some sort of elitism but because I find I can learn more by adapting existing parts. So I ordered some and I have to say they are extremely nice and more importantly a lot easier than my normal method.

Now I have a potential Heresy game lined up next year with some mates which means I finally have an incentive to get my backside in gear and get an army together. The beauty of these guys is that they double as a 40k army as well so it's a two for one deal.

Iron Warriors

Iron Warriors and Alpha Legion are probably my favourite traitor legions so I decided to go for a mass infantry IW army. I have 16 completely built (although I do need to clean up the Praetors' combi-weapon due to some last minute changes) and another 75 on the way. Now I have an airbrush this should be a fairly quick paint job so I am hoping to blaze through these guys like I used to do in the old days. I've tried to arm them so that they can be used in 30k and 40k settings but want massive units because to me that is part of what sets the two settings apart.

Nice work on that combi-weapon!

Tortuga's great. Got ten of their Mk.II just recently [their Mk.III wasn't out yet - although I *did* nab five of their 'definitely not de-chaosified plague marines' not-quite truescale Mk.IIIs as a stopgap]

Only issues I've found is that a) the neck socket's too deep for standard Marine plastics without building somthing up inside it (not an issue for you greenstuffing people, rather annoying if, like me, you don't use such things); and b) the size is such that regular Marine arms are a liiitle bit t-rex arm syndrome on them. Something which can be easily gotten around by using Mk.X (although that doesn't go *quite* so well for the historical vibe in terms of aesthetics); or Mk.III I suppose. (or the standards of Mk.VIII / Ravenwing Command arms; one gets the idea).

There's also a c) around some of the posings being a little peculiar, but it's workable and just comes down to one's imagination in terms of what to do with additional bitz to make them come to life - and that's hardly a worse scenario than what's already extant with the Primaris range anyway.

Still, very impressive offering for them. Definitely going to accelerate a lot of truescaling projects, especially as they're so reasonably priced via comparison to .. well .. terminator kits - it *might* even work out relatively favourably compared to buying Primaris for base miniatures.

Personally, I was kinda surprised to note that .. I've become so accustomed to truescale Mk.III using cataphractii legs that *actual* Mk.III design doesn't quite look right anymore :P

But the Mk.IV they've just brought out - like, there's never been an 'easy' solution for that so wey-hey! And I don't even think FW *makes* Mk.II anymore!

Yeah the neck is definitely an issue. I'm waiting on the Mk IV to arrive but pretty sure the Reiver arms will work on them and if you cut the cuffs off you have Mk VI parts which is not a far stretch for Mk IV. So far the Mk III arms although smaller do give the desired effect.

My only other gripe is the tactical rock stuff, really do not like that on minis and when you are buying in packs of five you tend to get a lot of them after a while.

Joe said the guy does commissions so I may look into that.

These are how I envisioned the truescale terminator method years ago, they're not perfect but like you say open up huge opportunities for people that want to make a truescale army.

I've just received my Tortuga order and I'm extremely pleased with what they've done so far. You've done an excellent job on them.
What sort of paint job do you have in mind for the Iron Warriors? There's some pretty good airbrushable metals on the market nowadays, some fine enough to have a bit of a reflective sheen to them, even chrome finishes.

Batu: No problem :smile.:

Deathspectresgt7: Ok cool, on it like a sonnet.

Markus_: Yeah they are really nice. I'm going full on dark and grungy as I want them to look down trodden. Still WIP but having fun and plotting a game for February with a couple of mates from the Heresy crowd.

If they ever did decals for this Chapter I'd be extremely tempted to make a force of them.

I wouldn't be surprised if unofficial decals become available via our downloads. I'm not promising to make them, mind you, but we have a number of members that are adept at such a thing, so it's within the realm of the possible for decals to become available at some point in the future. If that happens, I'll hold you to your word (and look forward to seeing actual Tome Keeper models).

So it is written so it shall be...

I really want to speed paint an army so this is the perfect opportunity. I've base coated these using my new airbrush and going to try and get them as far as possible in time for the decal release next weekend.

Also a bit more on the Iron Warriors.

The decals are going to be for the Tomb Keepers and are coming up for preorder in WD next weekend. So I am going to try and get atleast a patrol done by then. My aim is a Lieutenant and two tactical squads but I have basecoated a few extras in case something goes wrong.

I also got the purples sorted for your guy, I'm looking at Phoenician and Xereus purple which I will think are spot on. What I am thinking is paint him up but not do the base so you can make that to fit in with your army. Still struggling for a pose I like at the moment though, I'm trying for something like Cantor with a sword instead of a power fist.

Oh ok for your tomb keepers . Cool on the base I have one for him. Doing acouple of Blade guard for him. I was thinking of Cantor with a sword. Got a shocker today I have to go for more tests on my lungs they found some spots . Probably lung cancer but they are not positive.

So a very quick update.

I've given these several heavy washes of very watered down Mournfang brown to stain the Usanti Bone a darker colour. once it's dry I'll build it back up to Usanti Bone using washes then highlight with Screaming Skull. The actually GW method is the typical edge highlighting but I want a grittier more credible feel to my guys.
