Sixty bucks US.

ya :censored: that for 5 troops.

In fairness, five *Gravis* troops.

Given that they have three main weapon options and three specialist options, I don't see it as too surprising that they'd be 20% more expensive than a set of three Eradicators, who only have two main weapon options and a single specialist option (although yes, I will concede that melta rifles and their interfaces with the power plant are a more substantial component than heavy bolt rifles).

gravis isn't THAT much bigger to justify a price increase of over 100% ($120 for 10 compared to $50 for 10)

Intercessors have 3 main weapon options and 2 special weapons in their kit do they not?

Theres normally a rough correlation or at lesst a justification in pricing structure to troops/elites/characters; its a stingy price for a troops choice.

In terms of designing a mold/raw materials I dont see how these would cost the same amount to initially make as 10 vanilla intercessors.

exactly. HQs, elites and super heavies have always been expensive, but 2 boxes of HIs will cost more than what I payed for my baneblade when it was new...after taxes even that's ridiculous.

Why can they sell sanguinary guard at $48/5 but not HIs? Oh yeah cuz they're the new hotness that they expect people to buy no matter what, the price will never go down and the next release for the next edition will be more expensive

That correlation isn't about the amount of material or level of detail, it's about how many kits they expect to sell. It's why a single Primaris Captain is $30 for about a quarter of the plastic in five Intercessors; they don't just have to make a profit after the cost of plastic, packaging, and shipping on each kit, they have to sell enough kits to make up the cost of design and tooling and they're not going to sell as many Captains.

HIs being generictroops it can be expected they sell more boxes than a chapter specific elite choice, thus they shouldn't need to charge as much to cover those design costs.
If anyone thought these would have been less than $60, you haven’t been paying attention. All the 5 man AoS squads have been 60, the flayed ones are only less because they are spindly(sp) and use less plastic. This price sucks but it shouldnt be a surprise.
I actually wouldn't mind the price so much if it was a better kit. Limited model options, little variety in heads, and poses... It seems like a lazy kit. Would it have killed them to add a couple of servo skulls, some ornate shoulder pads or some melee weapons for the sergeant?
Having fielded Heavy Intercessors, I think the lack of melee weapon is more about game balance than sprue design. Heavy Intercessors are really quite strong. If they had access to melee weapons, there would be very little reason to field regular Intercessors unless you were really strapped for points.

Trust me theyre still making a good margin on the Captain.

Design costs on slightly smaller miniatures in other armies or ranges would be very similar but they charge less for them.

They price on a buckaroo system, its not based on recouping costs plus a margin, its what they can get away with.

That would make sense if the miniatures were designed by the rules team, but we know they're not. Minis first and then rules to match is how we know it's done.
