502Somm
I'm fairly new to 40K, and have just recently finished building my first army (Deathwatch). As I wrap up painting and start playing, I want to slowly start buying and building my second army (as opposed to the 3 weeks it took me to get over 3k worth of Deathwatch models haha). I've settled on Imperial Guard, with a focus on the Death Korps of Krieg (both for the aesthetic and because Death Rider Command Squads seem to be one of the best IG units), but I want to get at least a rough idea of a list together so I have some direction on what to start buying (as I bought a decent amount of unnecessary stuff for my Deathwatch). So, my thought process when building was I definitely wanted to utilize some Death Rider Command Squadrons. They seem really strong for their point cost, and at least to me on paper look like they'd be really adept at pushing people off backfield objectives and prevent my opponent from scoring some, which should really help an IG army since they have trouble staying on objectives themselves. My first thought was to build a IG list and then just add a detachment for the Death Riders. Doing that while also using a Spearhead Detachment (to get great, armor focused doctrines) is CP intensive though, so I settled on a main force of DKoK with a Spearhead Detachment for my armor. Gameplan wise I'm thinking infantry push up to objectives, followed by Leman Russes. The infantry will act as a screen for the tanks and be bodies on objectives, while the tanks engage whoever comes to push me off the objective. All the while mortars and artillery (torn between Manticores and Basilisks, but leaning Basilisks for more shots) sit out of LOS and hammer on key enemy units. Death Riders can come in from the flank and push the enemy off their backfield objectives, or come in and help in the midfield if needed. Lastly, the Hades drills can pop up where necessary and dump out the plasma vets, likely against enemy armor or elites. By now you're ready to finally see the list haha, ++ Battalion Detachment -3CP (Imperium - Death Korps of Krieg) [31 PL, 9CP, 575pts] ++ + Configuration + Battle Size [12CP]: 3. BIG ROB OF DEATH
Overall a pretty interesting army! Probably will do well given the current meta. Two things I wonder about, though- lack of long range, direct fire, anti-tank weaponry (a few lascannons at least might be good to have), and your choice of basilisks over manticores. Other than that, you look like you have a pretty complex, threatening army! Well done! Good Hunting! Good Hunting!I figured between my own tanks, Plasma Veterans, and Basilisks I should be able to handle any enemy armor. Not to mention running a Hades drill into a vehicle will do some serious damage. As for Basilisk vs Manticore, they're fairly close, the Manticore does slightly edge out the Basilisk on per shot damage, but the Basilisk is cheaper points wise and can fire that last turn (won't matter most games but nice to have the option). I've gone back and forth on them though. jarms48
I'd drop the basilisks for more deathriders personally. Removing both of those would give you 16 - 17 riders. I'd also cut the company commander and a mortar team. Then swap one of those standard demolishers to make it a second tank commander. Use the spare points to take a platoon commander for the veterans, and anymore spare points for more deathriders. duz_ 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/369627-2000pt-dkok-list-feedback-appreciated/#findComment-5682159 Share on other sites
