Guys, are Black Books bound in faux or real leather? I always assumed the former but just heard someone claiming the latter.

Never held one in hand so I have no way of knowing or checking - but for example my Siege of Terra Limirted Edtions feel definitely synthetic to me (though I can be wrong about that too).

By the way FW customer service claims they are faux leather but I guess they could've just said that believing me to be a pesky PETA undercover agent or something...

I'd be very surprised if it wasn't faux leather. I have some leather bound books and they're at least a century old if not older so its hard to compare properly, but even then there is a distinct difference in tacticle feel.

Leather is such a broad thing its hard to tell by touch, but i sincerely doubt GW would be lying about it, Faux stuff is cheaper and lying about what your stuff is made of can land you in hot water in the UK and elsewhere, its just not worth the hassle :D

(But seriously as an amateur leatherworker some of the good quality fake stuff is more "real" than the crap actual leather i practice with :D )

They're almost certainly bound with polyurethane (faux) leather.

There is very little difference between the covers of my Black Books and the PU leather chair I use at my computer desk. The feel, the look of the grain and the smell (the chair and book nine are about the same age) are very similar.
