Blood-worm's Master
Guys, are Black Books bound in faux or real leather? I always assumed the former but just heard someone claiming the latter. Never held one in hand so I have no way of knowing or checking - but for example my Siege of Terra Limirted Edtions feel definitely synthetic to me (though I can be wrong about that too). By the way FW customer service claims they are faux leather but I guess they could've just said that believing me to be a pesky PETA undercover agent or something... Gederas
Just felt my Book 9, then compared to my motorcycle jacket and wallet (both genuine leather), and the Black Book's binding definitely comes across as faux leather. Dagoth Ur
I'd be very surprised if it wasn't faux leather. I have some leather bound books and they're at least a century old if not older so its hard to compare properly, but even then there is a distinct difference in tacticle feel. Noserenda
Leather is such a broad thing its hard to tell by touch, but i sincerely doubt GW would be lying about it, Faux stuff is cheaper and lying about what your stuff is made of can land you in hot water in the UK and elsewhere, its just not worth the hassle :D (But seriously as an amateur leatherworker some of the good quality fake stuff is more "real" than the crap actual leather i practice with :D ) Blood-worm's Master 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/369813-hardback-black-books-binding/#findComment-5685515 Share on other sites
Brofist
You test fake leather with a flame (to see if it melts), but I'm not gonna do that to my precious black books haha Blood-worm's Master, Bung, WrathOfTheLion and 1 other 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/369813-hardback-black-books-binding/#findComment-5685556 Share on other sites
Ranulf
They're almost certainly bound with polyurethane (faux) leather. There is very little difference between the covers of my Black Books and the PU leather chair I use at my computer desk. The feel, the look of the grain and the smell (the chair and book nine are about the same age) are very similar. -Ran Blood-worm's Master 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/369813-hardback-black-books-binding/#findComment-5685560 Share on other sites
Marshal Rohr
It’s definitely faux leather. You’d pay way more if it was a real leather bound book.
