Okay, I'm attending a Heresy narrative event in June, and as such I have no clue what I'll be facing.

I'm to bring a 3k list and a 1250 ZM list to the event, because how it plays out will be determined by the Battlefleet Gothic event the day before.

I'm a 30k noob, so I *think* my list is pretty solid and able to deal with most things, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, here it is for perusal and deconstruction:

I did the list at 2900 instead of 3000 because Battlescribe has Corax costed 100 points too low for his normal version. The listed cost is for his Istvaan version.

At first glance, it looks pretty good.

The most obvious thing is that Ravens Talons are extremely expensive and a real point sponge that isn't doing anything. You'd be much better off replacing them with Power Axes and redistributing the points on more Combi weapons, power/chain fists, Terminators or blinging out your Veterans a little.

I'd also question the value of taking a Praetor over a Consul, since Corax is already providing MotL for you, so all he really provides is a beatstick. You might have more success with a Chaplain or Forge Lord as a melee multiplier, or do something more drastic like a Mortificator for your Dreadnought Talon.

If you can find the points from somewhere, I'd also suggest trying to put your Leviathan into a Drop Pod. It's expensive but it adds a lot of reliability to something that is already taking up a lot of points.

It's also worth noting that the choice of Veteran tactics is something that you make when the unit deploys, not something that you have to declare in your army list. You have the luxury of choosing the best one to match your opponent.

I might drop the Talons to regular lightning claws to save some points. But since I only have the one unit of them and don't have time to build and paint more that's the most I can do with them.

Good to know about the Veteran tactics. The unit with the missile launchers will probably be Machine Killers regardless, but that gives me some flexibility with the other one.

Unfortunately I don't have a ton of list flexibility because I'm building and painting these guys now. I have the Terminators, Corax, one veteran squad and all the heavy support choices done.

Have to build and paint the rest still, and still need to acquire the Rapiers.

Concerned about the Levi getting shot off the board before getting close enough to do it's thing, but maybe that's okay as it's going to draw fire away from other things. I'd be worried about it getting tarpitted with that set up, and you have to start it fairly forward if you want to make use of it's guns, but as long as it's decently supported by some of the stuff that can sweep away the chaff, it should be okay.

Hijacking this thread slightly for a question: are the Graviton guns on the Rapiers that much better than the Laser Destroyers?

Define ‘better’… For sure, grav will be effective against any ground vehicle but laser rapiers have some merits. They’re considerably cheaper, great for budget AT especially if your heavy support is full, just like javelins. If your meta is not saturated with Spartans (mine isn’t) then most targets have AV13, and S9 Ordnance is rather reliable against it: 75% vs grav’s 83% BUT you get way more penetrates (thus making them snapfire/immobilized etc) and you can explode them outright with your Ap1 – each hit against AV13 has 18.5% for just evaporating target that you would have to scratch to death with grav’s glancing hits otherwise. Honestly, I think both are good depending on your targets.

At 55 points, lazer destroyers are a bargain. The extra 25 points into grav is a big points sink for something that can never outright destroy a tank in one go.

The AP1 for the destroyers makes them potentially excellent, if not consistent.

My list has changed significantly since I posted this.

Now it looks like the following, and after playing a practice game against Death Guard I'm pretty happy with where it's at.
