Trying to keep things simple as the Death Guard options are pretty bewildering on first appraisal!

Harbingers

Typhus (165) - Warlord, Shamblerot, Miasma of Pestilence & Gift of Contagion

Terminator Sorcerer (110) - Plaguechosen (Arch-Contaminator), Fugaris' Helm, Force Axe & Combi-Bolter, Putrescent Vitality & Curse of the Leper

20 Poxwalkers (100)

20 Poxwalkers (100)

20 Poxwalkers (100)

10 Death Guard Possessed (240)

5 Deathshroud Terminators (250)

5 Deathshroud Terminators (250)

5 Chaos Spawn (115)

3 Chaos Spawn (69) - Grandfatherly Influence

1499pts, 10CP

Plan is simple, Typhus will footslog with the horde of Poxwalkers, Possessed will run headlong at the enemy just behind the Spawn with Cloud of Flies protection, Terminators will deep strike with Sorcerer to deal with armour and then get stuck in.

Edit: Could modify this, take the Sorcerer out for a winged Prince, drop 3 Spawn from the 5-man unit. The Prince then flies up with the Possessed.

Fair point! Maybe something like this then:

Harbingers

Typhus (165) - Warlord, Shamblerot, Gift of Contagion & Gift of Plagues

Death Guard Daemon Prince (150) - Plaguechosen (Arch-Contaminator), Fugaris' Helm, Hellforged Sword, Putrescent Vitality

20 Poxwalkers (100)

20 Poxwalkers (100)

20 Poxwalkers (100)

10 Death Guard Possessed (240)

5 Deathshroud Terminators (265) - Chimes of contagion

5 Deathshroud Terminators (265) - Chimes of contagion

5 Chaos Spawn (115) - Grandfatherly influence

1500pts, 9CP

Changed one of Typhus' powers so he can be getting 12" on his contagions early doors. The -1 to hit one feels nice but whatever Poxwalkers he casts it on will presumably just get ignored in favour of the others!

Went for the sword on the Prince as then he can swat any tanks out the way of the Possessed.

Also Chimes to make the Deathshroud's contagion cut sooner, and can pop the strat that allows them to apply Shamblerot too.

Looking at a more manageable chunk to build towards, here is 1k. I feel like it must be decent at 1k but who knows!

Harbingers Patrol Detachment

Typhus (165) - Warlord (Shamblerot), Miasma of Pestilence, Putrescent Vitality

20 Poxwalkers (100)

20 Poxwalkers (100)

5 Deathshroud Terminators (280) - Chimes of contagion, Champion has Unstable Sickness

10 Deathguard Possessed (240)

5 Chaos Spawn (115) - Grandfatherly influence

1000pts, 4CP

Typhus puts -1 to hit and +1T onto Spawn (they're now T7!), and they screen Possessed via Cloud of Flies and run upfield fast.

Deathshroud come down and knock out any armour, and then stick around as a nasty nut to crack.

Typhus walks up with the Poxwalkers.

Greetings  Kraskor,

You've constructed a very thematic, close combat oriented army.  It should be fun to play.  Some thoughts.

Keep an eye on Unit Keywords.  The Spawn are "Beasts" not "Infantry" and therefore not an eligible target for the Vitality spell.

You've got no guns outside of the plague gauntlets, which have a limited range.  There will be times when you wish you had a few guns.  You could flip the Possessed for a unit of 5 Blightlords with a Blightlauncher and Flail to make sure you can throw some shots downfield.

Make sure you give pre-game thought to your secondaries as this list will limit some that you can take.  The Spawn and Poxwalkers cannot perform actions (outside of poxwalkers which can spread the sickness).  They are also not Bubonic Astartes and won't help score Despoiled Ground.

The Spawn might be overkill in this list.  You could drop them to 3 and try to work in one of the support characters, which are a big part of the fun of playing Death Guard IMO.  Dropping 2 spawn, the chimes and a couple poxwalkers gets you a Biologist to buff your possessed or deathshroud.  Or just flip them for 5 plague marines with a blight launcher and/or flail to hold your home objective, and advance all 40 poxwalkers up the field.

Also would recommend looking at the Harbingers Army of renown and keeping that second spell caster in your 1500 list to take advantage of the new spells.  In that list I would be high on the Deamon Prince with Wings as his damage 3 weapon gives you some much needed anti-armor/anti-gravis and the wings will help him maneuver around all your zombies.

Thank you for taking the time to comment MCB82 I really appreciate it.

In terms of adding shooting support, what are your thoughts on Plague Marines v Blightlords? Some backfield PM might help to hold and perform actions, but their shooting might not have the range to hit the targets in enemy backfield. Whereas BL can deepstrike.

And noted re: Spawn, you're right of course I've misread Vitality. They can still benefit from Miasma interestingly. Dropping to three would save points and CP on Grandfatherly Influence so I think you're right on that.

For the support characters, is there any kind of established hierarchy? I would've thought Tallyman generating CP would be high up there, as well as throwing down +1 to hit. If I was going for a more ranged army I think Tallyman with Tollkeeper would be essential but as I'm pretty combat oriented is it less useful? What about Blightspawn with Revolting Stenchvats.

Would a unit of PM just with standard bolters, then throw a Biologius and combine with Virulent Rounds be effective for those Mortal Wounds? Could add Arch-Contaminator.

Edit: So a quick revamp of the 1.5k, something like this:

Terminus Est Assault Force (Battalion)

Typhus (165) - Warlord, Miasma of Pestilence, Curse of the Leper

Daemon Prince (185) - Wings, Sword, Supperating Plate, Rotten Constitution, Rotwind (-2AP spell)

19 Poxwalkers (95)

19 Poxwalkers (95)

19 Poxwalkers (95)

10 Plague Marines (230) - Champion w/ Boltgun and Daemonic Blade, 7 w/ Boltgun, 2 w/ Blight Launcher

5 Deathshroud (250)

5 Deathshroud (250)

Tallyman (70)

Biologius Putrifier (65) - Arch-Contaminator, Fugaris' Helm

1500pts, 9CP

The Biologius is a fun choice here as you can use the Terminus Est Strategic Reserve rule to deeptrike him in with a unit of Deathshroud and Arch Contaminator will help the Deathsroud cleave through armor.

If you go that route, consider breaking the PM in 2 units of 5.  You can Deep Strike 5 of them in with the Deathshroud and Biologius where they can take advantage of his buff to Grenades.  Plus if you steal an objective you can have the PM sit on the objective while the Terminators move on to other targets.
