Llagos_Tyrant
First time posting a list, and coming up with my first Necron list (new player here, still assembling models) and wanted some feedback. I'm trying to use most of the models I already have (just missing Immortals and the Heavy Support), and wanted to emulate the silver tide/wall of death robots slowly advancing forward from the Terminator movies. I think the list gives me a lot of staying power, a lot of board control, and enough early game movement to account for the lower range on the Necron Warriors than I'm used to (bolters). I figure with the models in this list and others from the Indomitus box + a chronomancer/technomancer I should be able to make fun lists for all points values. I've only played Chaos Space Marines before so the Necron meta is very foreign to me, but I've watched enough youtube battle reports to see Necron blobs with Veil of Darkness can really tie up an opponents shooting, and that board control is more often key to victory than wiping out the enemy army. I also figure with so much AP in the army I should be able to chew through just about anything in time. Plan would be to deploy the warriors aggressively, babysit them with the Overlord for Relentless March and My Will be Done and move up while Immortals hold the backfield. Doomsday Arks hang back and fire out on heavy targets, while the Scarab swarms run out to objectives, and the Skorpekhs are the distraction/blender for melee. The Command Barge can just zip around the board firing where needed, and should hopefully be fairly durable. At some point, the Overlord with Veil of Darkness can disappear and reposition somewhere fun on the board. I'm not necessarily trying to be super competitive, but I lose a lot more games than I win and want to taste a bit of victory with such a cool faction. Would most regularly be playing vs Tau, Thousand Sons, Imperial Guard, Space Marines in my local group. Potentially Orks and Sisters of Battle, though less often. +++ 1995 pts +++ Custom Dynasty: - Eternal Conquerors for objective secured - Relentlessly Expansionist for first turn movement +++ HQ +++ Catacomb Command Barge = 155 - Warlord - Warlord Trait: Enduring Will - Artefact: Nanoscarab Casket - Gauss Cannon Overlord = 100 - -1cp Rarefied Nobility - Warlord Trait: Thrall of the Silent King - -1cp Dynastic Heirlooms - Artefact: Veil of Darkness - Tachyon Arrow and Hyperphase Glaive Skorpekh Lord = 130 +++ Troops +++ Necron Warriors - x20, Gauss Reapers = 260 Necron Warriors - x20, Gauss Reapers = 260 Immortals - x5 Gauss Blasters = 85 +++ Elites +++ Skorpekh Destroyers - x3 Skorpekh Destroyers = 105 Skorpekh Destroyers - x3 Skorpekh Destroyers = 105 +++ Fast Attack +++ Canoptek Scarab Swarms - x6 Scarab Swarm = 90 Canoptek Scarab Swarms - x6 Scarab Swarm = 90 +++ Heavy Support +++ Doomsday Ark - 190 Doomsday Ark - 190 Lokhust Destroyers - 3x Lokhust Destroyer, 1x Lokhust Heavy Destroyer (Gauss Destructor) = 235 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/369839-first-2k-necron-list/ Share on other sites
Mr4Minutes
Really nice start. My personal opinions here. I’d combine the Skorpekh squads and cap them at 5. You’ll avoid coherency issues and blast. With 2 3 mans they’ll be easier to kill and you can only use the -1 to wound strat on 1 unit. 1 squad maximizes the strat and gives you a better chance of using RP. I’d put enduring will on the Skorpekh lord, as he’s more likely to be getting up close and personal. Dropping one of the overlords for a cryptek will give you more utility. I think the Veil of Darkness is out only competitive relic, but I see it as more of a turn 4 or 5 redeploy rather then a jump a shooting unit up early. I hate doomsday arks. They are incredibly swingy. Yes, they can potentially nuke a lot. However, I’ve also had one fail to kill a lemun russ(probably it’s most ultimate target) over multiple turns. I’d suggest switching one for a ghost ark . Who can help you return warriors and move them once their under 11 models. Last little bit. Eternal conquerors and relentlessly expansionist are a good competitive option, but are much less fun. I would recommend trying one of the names dynasty in your less competitive games for a few more strat/relice/ability options. I think they lead to funner games when you didn’t care who wins. The choice you’ve got leads to more stand and hold play style. Llagos_Tyrant
Thanks for the tips and the advice! Much appreciated. Also appreciate the analysis on the fun vs competitive scale. I don't want to start power gaming in our local club, so I'll probably try to run different Dynasties/custom mixes as you suggest to keep it fun and interesting. I've been a little torn on Gauss Reapers vs Flayers lately. Part of me thinks the AP -2 is too good to pass up, but the if the longer range of the Flayer gets them shooting a turn earlier it might even out in the end. What are your thoughts on that? Mr4Minutes
I’ve been using only Reapers. The extra strength and ap goes a long way. I’m usually moving warriors to threaten and take the mid board, so I’m usually engaging within 12”. Necrons are also not really a long range shooting army anyway. There’s a few good tools to get into reaper range as well, including the veil of darkness relic.
