domsto
Hello fellow Guardsmen As i slowly awake from my Warhammer slumber thanks to Covid and all, i started looking deeper into 9.Ed List Building for a Game i will play soon. I was looking for some Anti Tanks stuff and IMO the Leman Russ is pretty overcosted and the Tank Commander slightly Overcosted so i startet looking at the Devil Dog. A unit that was more or less nonexsistend in 8.Ed, now looks pretty Good. With the Changes 9.Ed made, it might became worth it. 4 24" Meltar Shoots on average seem devestating, and with all those super killy Guns out there now, the lesser Thougness of 7 compared to the 8 of the Leman Russ does seem neglectable But this is all just Theory has anbody played them resently and can give me Field reports? jarms48
The biggest issue issues are: - BS4+ so your average hits will be anywhere from 1.5 - 2.5 not that great for 110 points. - 11 wounds and thus gives 2/3 VP depending on enemy secondaries. - Not many ways to buff that damage output. Splash Damage is nice, but your average is still around that 1 - 2 mark. Compared to say a Scion Command Squad with 4 meltas at 80 points. - It can deep strike anywhere on turn 2. - Average is 2 - 3 hits. - Can receive orders, more stratagems, and other sources of buffing. You're welcome to try them of course, they might catch an enemy by surprise because no-one still really takes them. 4CIN87 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/369850-devil-dog-worth-it/#findComment-5686354 Share on other sites
sairence
Yeah, I'm not convinced by them either. I have been thinking about Hellhounds with Hull-MMs as a compromise. It's only a 10p upgrade over the normal tank but it gives you an interesting all-rounder unit. You are right about the VP Part, but this is a Problem Guard has in generell i think, we will always give way to many VP for "Bring it Down" and "Thin their Ranks" this two Secondarys should be scratched anyway.... About the buffing Valid Point Yeah i totally overlooked it. But you are right again, the only think you can Buff probably in Guard is Infanrty and Leman Russ.
