Belasarius Cawl - Master of machines, 10,000+ years of technological enhancement, produced a new improved astartes which arguably outstrips even the emperors own work.

Yet cant build himself a weapon that reliably fires the same amount of shots each time. :dry.:

Seriously would it have been so bad to give his giant gun a flat 3 shots or 24" range? -

Sure, noone is taking cawl in an offensive role, but he'll be out of range half the game anyway, and then when he does get to fire his weapon it should be terrifying. Yet on average itll kill 2 marines or strip 6 wounds off a vehicle.

Certainly more of a fluff thing for me (heck, i dont even play mars! hah), but the Solar Atomizer is the size of an eradicator marine yet seems less effective than the melta rifle said marine carries.

It is basically an improved Eradication Beamer but where the blast comes in is the slicing through a line of targets while its firing. Mechanicus the game shows pretty well what the weapons act like.

Wait what? I never managed to find that in my playthrough. I'll have to carry on my second playthrough and see if it shows up. :)

Mind you, Mechanicus presented Phosphor weapons as bizarre multi-target shotgun-like weapons Which seemed a bit odd to me. Perhaps they did that to speed up the firing animation? I always imagined them firing more like a heavy stubber or autocannon.

Anyway, great game. I'm hoping for a follow-up someday.

I'm hoping the Kataphrons and Skitarii manage to evade the Nerf bad. I guess time will tell.

Hmm do you have the Arc Scourge? I think the Atomiser and Scourge are some of the items I got for upgrading to the "super duper" version(GW sent out a code to do it when you brought something a few years back). It costs more actions to use but it deletes entire groups of enemies. Its a Golden Yellow Beam that feels more powerful.

Yeah might be artistic licence but the actual projectiles seem right. I suppose it could be like locked targeting and all firing at the same time. So much fun taking out half the map with it charged up :D

I really do hope they do another game like it, the expansion was a little light on the content, the new class was very fun though.

I did indeed get the Arc Scourge. I think it was possible to start the the campaign with it? My memory is hazy about that though. I don't need an excuse to play the game it's that fun already, I haven't played it since the Heretek expansion was released. That will have to be playthrough three. Playthrough 2 was me burning incense and playing loud music to scare the Necrons away. :p

You probably got unlucky then, I think there is always a few items you cannot get in a single play through, although last playthrough I was able to play every mission and still have a ton of awakening left. I think they removed the minimum of four awakening per level which was there at release and that allows you to end a mission with 0 awakening, if you do all the red fights on the map and make sure to destroy terminals after you interact with them.

Anyway I am eagerly awaiting todays reveals, it has to be us today, I hope.

I will remember this on my next playthrough, my first and current I'm halfway up the awakening bar and only about 12ish missions in.

Yeah...as said, remove the min 4, take the optional fights after doing the discovery steps to reach the target, destroy consoles after looting them, and you consistently get zero awakening. Takes some leveling to reach that efficiency (looting additional consoles helps), and some difficulty settings customization, but you can experience every mission then.

Downside, missions become trivial at that point. Having 5-6 super geared up and skilled techpriests plus expendable units makes you steamroll/speedrun everything without challenge.

Yeah that's the problem with the game but I prefer their system of always hitting but reducing the damage over the 99% misses I see in Xcom :smile.:

And I am a sad tech-priest, I was really expecting it was our week, well maybe next.

...More leaks please...

Curiously silent on the hype front though... Does GW still order something from China? Did some of our stuff spent a couple of weeks on the waves of the Red Sea, waiting for the Suez Canal to be unclogged? I was under the impression they make everything in the UK these days, but I don't know that for a fact.

The models, except scenery are moulded in the UK, but the paperwork is mostly from China.

I am joining the bandwagon for wanting to know what's happening with Kataphrons. Will we be getting a scenery piece?

I am practically salivating at this news. No longer will Plasma Destroyers go off like popcorn with a few bad dice rolls, Transonic weaponry actually carving through armour? Torsion cannons being more reliable and longer ranged? This is some good stuff. I am surprised at Galvanic rifles going heavy since they used to have move through cover and the background suggested Skitarii fired from the move but they will synergise nicely with the Transuranic Arquebus still and I think most people use Rangers to camp objectives from afar anyway.

I am really happy with the Arc weapons overall now. They will be considerably more reliable against heavier vehicles. Does anyone see an impending jump in points costs for this new power?

My quick summary of the new weapon changes:

Plasma Destroyers: Finally. I think we all agree, this was very over due.

So get this... I just had a game about 2 days ago where I lost 2 of 3 Plasma Destroyers to overcharge (and that was with Cawl!) I said to my opponent.... this is crap... this has to change like it did for vehicles to a mortal wound. So this is so huge for me I almost completely stopped using the Plasma Destroyers.

Breacher Talk:

I've been playing the Defense Cohort a lot. My last game yesterday was a full 2K of the Cohort and I struggled to make a full 2K and yet again I am ironically complaining last night about the complete lethargic garbage that makes up the Breacher arsenal.

Here's the thing.... the Arc rifle is not only better, but on the Breachers did it not do D6 damage on vehicles? It is referred to as the "heavy Arc rifle". I am imagining that just means the Breacher will see the change to 2 Heavy at 36"? The auto vehicle wound at 4+ and damage 3 is acceptable.

Last night, I kid you not, I shot at Sisters of Battle tanks continuously fishing for 4's to hit (sometimes 5's because of dense forest!) and 5's to wound. I can't tell you how over the course of a game this completely turns you off of Breachers.

The second question I have is does this mean we could see BS3 Breachers?

Breacher Arc Claw: As GW describes it, I will wound on a 4+ now which is sooo much better. I think I was taking 3 attacks each, I charged an SoB tank with T8, and completely bounced with 9 attacks hitting on 4's, wounding on 5's.

Yea I get this is a dice game but this happens too often and served to remind me why I think Breachers -were- a losing choice in the competitive meta. This could very well change things.

Torsion Cannon. Keeping the focus on Breachers the Heavy Arc Rifle competes now with the Torsion Cannon doing D3+3 damage, and a range extension to 48". This is good, it's probably still 1 shot and still (potentially) 5 more points than a Heavy Arc Rifle.

The thing I kept saying though is aside from Cognis Las, Admech actually did not have a lot of high damage options against high toughness/multi wound units. This Torsion Cannon does help us with that problem. We don't have Melta, or anything really like it. I still don't like the Onager even after the leaks, and this Torsion Cannon does sit on an ObSec, Troop unit.

It will be interesting to see what people use.

What we don't know (aside from costs) is what happens (if anything) to the Hydraulic Claw? The -1 to hit factor on it is brutal, and while the Arc Claw has a decent secondary effect on vehicles, it is still rather lethargic against Infantry.

Sicarian Rustalkers and Transonic Blades/Razors: We don't know the full details yet, but I confess to having 5 of these guys I've never even put together!!! AP-3 blades and AP-2 razors are good.... but the choice isn't that clear yet. I've come to really start liking the Pteraxxi and I will have a wait and see on these. Not to mention I have 10 painted Sicarian Infiltrators that I really don't use anymore, and they weren't that bad, and apparently will improve with the Tasers since we've seen the leaks on their weaponry as well giving them +1 AP (I believe?)

Cognis Weapons: The Flamer gets an incredible boos. I have and will continue to put these on my Destroyer units which always get smashed into close combat as they are hard to hide. Increasing range to 12" from 8 is great, but not as big as the D6+2 auto hits!

Cognis Heavy Stubbers going from 3-4 shots actually means a lot to me. I actually use 2 flyers loaded with them and I often use 2 of the Dunestrider Transports in most of my lists. IF we retain the strategem to fire Cognis weapons at normal BS in overwatch, this becomes just a nice bonus to that. The lack of AP is quite horrid in 9th edition, so the extra shot is welcome.

Twin Cognis Autocannon is just a good Primaris killer now. A nice little boost in shots.

Twin Cognis Lascannon. Obviously the big winner here. Metalica is going to love the fact it's assault now. The min damage of 3 (+D3) is just another overdue adjustment to what's become 'multi melta meta' as I call it.

Let's rejoice! Admech gets their moment in the sun!

It seems like a complete redesign as far as the weapons go. Everything is indeed deadlier and once we add in all the special rules such as character buffs, canticles and strats its gonna be a totally different army on the field.

The only thing i will say about Destroyers is I never took them due to being hugely expensive and having a 4+ save meant they died VERY quickly. That would need to change for me to take them.

*Subtle simply keeps his head down and keeps painting in preparation*

I've been bringing my army together for so long that my lists never solidified into something final, and here we go again. I'm not bitter, it's just humorous really. But now, I've got so much ready I'm just trying to fill out the collection so I have redundancy and enough selection that I've got options to experiment with everything once the codex drops and all the missing bits are revealed. It all seems great, but I'll just keep painting until I don't have to speculate about the unknown. :smile.:

My only gripe is Galvanic rifles going from RF1 to H2. Hopefully they'll get their ignore penalty to shooting back from 7th with that change. Otherwise their roll as cheap backline filler remains unchanged.

Everything else is just nice to see

Getting the feeling more and more that the Marshall will be our only new model this release and that this codex is more about tweaking the faction than shiney new toys.

Well we got some new units in-between editions with the stuff that came out for Engine War. The new codex will have those in it.

So between codexes we got four FA units, an HQ, a flyer and a tank/transport. Not a bad upgrade honestly.
