Spent last weekend practice gaming with two meta players for a 32(?) player RTT in two weeks. Decided to tweak my normal list. This list might look different (as a Successor) if I had been able to get my hands on and paint a Outrider Chaplain. It has most the current bells and whistles and features my old favorites the Aggressors. I’ll go more into detail on usage but looking for feedback.

With so many T5/3W bodies in that list, maybe you could squeez in a Chief Apothecary? Each Thicc Boi you revive or heal back to health is worth 30+ pts, he should pay for himself most of the time and take some pressure off of your other, more critical units.

Other than that, it's hard to offer more suggestions since the list is clearly focused on redundancy of gravis units.

Does the RTT required you to lock in the Relics for your characters?

+1 to @jpwyrm's suggestion re: a chief apothecary. They are 90 points. You could save 80 points by swapping the heavy intercessor for normal ones (50 points) and the infiltrators for incursors (2x15 = 30 points). You could then replace one 5-man aggressor squad (225) for a squad of 5 terminators with a cyclone missile launcher (215), and you have your 90 points.

The terminators will last longer than the Aggressors, and whilst they have a lower damage output, like aggressors they can shoot and do work in melee. They also offer the option of deep striking. By having aggressors, terminators and BGV in your list you have tons of flexibility. As I've said in other threads, they have similar and slightly overlapping roles. In my view terminators "sit between" aggressors and BGV in terms of damage output and between BGV and Aggressor in terms of durability, but with a bit more flexibility than either. So your by having a terminator squad they can do a good impression of Aggressors, or a good impression of BGV, so that would give you some really interesting tools. A little less daka than two squads of Aggressors, but much more durability (especially against high AP weapons). Also, the CML can pitch in against any targets that your Eradicators can't finish off (trust me, it can happen!), and the 24-inch range can let them sit and hold objectives and create firing zones better than Aggressors or BGV.

If you can't squeeze an apothecary in, then I would suggest considering swapping one unit of aggressors for a unit of terminators with cyclone missile launcher, or a relic terminators with lightning claws and combi-bolters, and then maybe spending the points saved on a helix gauntlet for one or both of the infiltrators (if you want them to be a bit more durable), or taking those points plus those saved from switching to normal intercessors and getting a squad of eliminators.

Otherwise, maybe considering dropping 1 BGV, one Aggressor and 1 eradicator (35, 40, 45 = 120 points), down grade one infiltrator squad to incursors and you have 135 points, enough for a squad of jump pack twin-lightning claw vanguard veterans to team up with your plasma inceptors for some very fast, mobile melee threat. Soften up the target with plasma, shred whats left with the VGVs. Otherwise, run them at characters and murder them :smile.:

Just my suggestions, I still think your list is cool! :biggrin.:

Thanks guys. I’ll take second look at the Apothecary thing.

Everything in my army has to be Primaris

Though .... a Dark Angel successor chapter of all Terminators could be my second Space Marine army some day. :smile.:

If you drop the heavy intercessors to normal ones (50 points) and drop 1 aggressor (45 points) you have 95 points, which is enough for a primaris chief apothecary. Think of the math this way: he only has to bring back two aggressors, bring back one and heal another once to basically make back his points, and that is without considering the points value in having those healed/resurrected units shoot and fight again after they get back up.

Mobility issues with the apothecary in how I use Aggressors but you have me seriously looking at an Eradicator medic

OK, well let me tickle  you with this idea. Make the Chief Apothecary your warlord. Give him selfless healer and MOA, put some tanky relic armour on him. Drop Shrike. I know you want an all-primaris army, so for 140 points you can get a MOS primaris chaplain on a bike. Give him wise orator, plus a chunky weapon or armour relic.

You can now MOA your aggressors (or BGV) and Chief Apothecary in together, and your primaris chaplain on a bike can zoom up and buff them within an inch of the throne's golden light with litanies and go nuts. That solves your mobility issue for the Chief Apothecary and gives your aggressors more durability and sustains their damage output for longer

There is only a 5 point difference between Shrike and a primaris chaplain on a bike, or, if you are flexible on the primaris bit, you could get a first-born jump captain or chaplain with interesting kit for 135 points.

Also, the MOA-ing chief apothecary as warlord is not purely theoretical. I've run it three times IRL FLGS league games (which are basically mini tournaments) where I went 3-2 in those games, winning two by 20+ points and losing one (against Custodes) by 5. It is a really "out of the box" but workable idea for RG :biggrin.:

  • 2 weeks later...

Phone camera died a final death. So sorry no pics.

Scored in top 10 out of 32 but only went 1-2.

First opponent for a Silent King list that I was able to kill the King T2 and most everything else T3 so he castled up rest of game.

Second opponent was Bloody Rose with a Guard Patrol for Manticores and Scions basically. Close game I could have made better choices. Most important of all was missing out on Scramblers. I lost by 9 points :( It was in my head each Turn to use the stratagem to shoot and perform action ... and then I got caught up in trying to shoot units of Objectives ... I spaced it until it was too late.

Third opponent I lost but I scored 75 points on a mission and terrain table that was hateful. (Tournament overall had great tables) ... and this guy played a straight up Death Korp list I’ve never faced but would say is iconic ... and he played it well. I’ll take a loss with 75 points under those conditions. Poor guy had lost his voice couldn’t speak. I told him just roll what you need to do I wasnt going to worry about having it all explained if it meant hurting his voice more. I we pretty wasted by that time recovering from a cold myself. I could have scored more with different secondaries end result would have been dame I’m sure.

Good tournament. Good COVID procedures ... for the most part.

Uncompromising Fire dang it.
