*blows dust off and taps mic* is this thing on?

So as the title suggests, I'm getting back into the hobby after having distanced myself for a while. I used to go by the moniker Brother Tyrax and had a pretty successful army of Marines Malevolent and a Heresy Era Iron Warriors project.

Well the Malevolent's got sold and the Iron Warriors are dead in a box somewhere and I honestly can't be bothered to find them.

That being said I'll be throwing something small together for some local games and build the army up in bite sized chunks. I am going to revive the Marines Malevolent 3rd Crusade.

Gonna start with 500pts and build from there.

Now comes the magic question; what do I /want/ in my baby list?

I have been contemplating the hilarity of a 5 man Intercessor Squad with a Lieutenant in a Repulsor because nothing says I don't take anything seriously like the ultimate Chad ride full of bois.

What do you like in your small armies and why?

You could start with the following ideas for small lists:

-Primaris Captain, Power Fist, Plasma Pistol

-5 Intercesors, Power Fist Sgt

-5 Intercesors, Power Sword Sgt

-Redemptor Dreadnought, Heavy Plasma, Gatling, Missile Pod

Or

-Primaris Lieutenant, MC Power Sword

-5 Intercessors

-5 Intercessors

-5 Eradicators

You want to have some troops to seize objectives even in smaller games.

I heard some stores still have the Indomitus Box. This is full of great units with great savings. They might not all be useful for small games, but if you later expand your army you will regret not to have snatched it.

Marines don't really have bad units (Except Reivers ), so for a 500 points starter, take a look at the Combat Patrol boxes and grab the one you like the most.

If you were to go this route, which is something of skew list I think you might actually do ok with it. At the 500 point level something like a Repulsor can be really tough for your opponent to shift.

You might want to consider:

  • Reiver Lt, Fear Made Manifest (Warlord Trait), Vox Espiritum (Relic)
  • 5 Assault Intercessors, Power Fist on Sergeant
  • Repulsor with a Las Talon and Icarus Launcher (and then all the rest are base dakka options)

You've got plenty of dakka from the Repulsor and a bit of dedicated anti-tank too (Onslaughts and Heavy Bolters can do chip damage pretty well).

The Assault Intercessors kick out a lot of attacks and even more with the right Chapter traits

The Reiver LT for me is one of the best Primaris Characters in this build, he gives -1 to Ld within 9" and -3 within 6", on top of this he gives -1 to Attrition tests within 9" too, if you can get a unit under 50% they get hit really hard by a failed morale check.

Thanks for the responses guys!

I'm really digging the Redemptor + foot sloggers as it feels like familiar territory (used to do armored cav with dread support).

However the Reiver + Repulsor stack is very delicious sounding.

I think I'll do both and build an armored cav convoy army again.

Big love to all the suggestions
