If anyone has noticed, I am gradually updating my various armies to 9th edition now that lockdowns are ending and I might actually get some games in. This one is my least built remnants army but it is fun to paint. I basically combined my Minotaurs and Red Scorpions(terminator Cullin is now 1st company commander of my 2nd Fire Angels list) into one force. I had a Tyberos model around and an Abaddon model for a Black legion force I purchased a bunch of models on but got bored painting so now I have Abaddon stature Tyberos. No pics as of yet but basically its Abby with Tyberos head and both of his litclaw/chainfists standing on a nightlord.

That said, here is what I am working on. I wanted it to be my mostly assault themed in your face marine army.

2k Vanguard Raven Guard successor, Hungry for Battle, Whirlwind of rage

Tyberos (complete)

Chaplain-Canticle of hate, Relic: Benediction of fury, Master of Sanctity, jump pack WL Trait: Master of Ambush (complete)

Assault Intercessors x8 sgt has a thunderhammer

Infiltrators x5 (complete)

Invictor Tactical suit with incendium cannon (its something I had that can be in the opponents face T1 that he cant really ignore) (Built)

Redemptor Dread with Heavy Onslaught Cannon (on order)

Terminator Assault Squad x5 with T-hammer and storm shields (built)

Vanguard vets/jump packs x9 all with lightning claws and storm shields, sgt with thammer and storm shield (Built)

Vanguard Vets/ jump packs x9 all with twin lightning claws and a sgt with t-hammer storm shield(because reasons) This whole squad is converted using primaris reavers and RG Furys, its about half way painted. Only the sgt can really be changed out of it if someone can come up with a better weapon option) (Built)

Devastator Squad cherub and 4 grav cannons (complete)

Eradicator Squad x3 (complete)

Drop pod(built)

Questions, do I actually need a drop pod for the Devs? Getting rid of it means I could up my vanguard squads to full 10 each and maybe a wargear piece elsewhere.

Is the Heavy Onslaught cannon the better option for the Redemptor?

This is the least built and painted army I have. I have a lot of 3rd party bits for various units so it wont be on the table for awhile. On a side note Red Scorpions are easy to paint over to Carcharodons. Paint the shoulder trim, knees, and helm stripes and you are 95% done. Now just my DA primaris successor with a heavy armor theme(Star Phantoms) and my Necrons to go. My IG really didn't change much between editions.

I mean Grav-cannons are 30" range now with no requirement for half, you could drop the pod and just bring them in from Strategic Reserves if you don't mind not being able to shoot them turn 1. That said I've found 10-man Vanguard Squads really unwieldy, you want to be able to hide them behind obscuring when they aren't in combat including while you're charging and a big unit is much harder to hide. Smaller units like 6-7 guys include enough ablative bodies and slots for heavier melee weapons that it works well imo.

Heavy Onslaught is a solid gun, it'll kill 5.5 GEQ, 3.5 Necron Warriors/SoB or 1.3 MEQ, I think the issue is anything above that the Plasma Incinerator is better at. So if you need more chaff-killing power you want the Gatling. Your list has tons of Lightning Claws, Assault Intercessors and an Invictor though so you have tons of that. I would bring the Plasma to help shore up your anti-tank/anti-Gravis alongside the Eradicators and Devastators.

This is really good advice, based on my experience. I love grav devastators. They do some serious work. I'd consider turning your 2 x  9 VGV into 3 squads of 6. Drop pod is thematic, and can save you CP, but I think it can be dropped. I'd invest the points saved into additional eradicators for AT work, or, depending on points available either getting some "ablative armour" marines for the devastator squad and consider swapping out one of the grav cannons for a las cannon, just to give a bit more AT. Alternatively, I've become rather fond of missile launcher devastators. Very flexible. Excellent range.

Otherwise, Alcyon makes a good point about plasma. You can either go inceptors, assault hellblasters or company veterans. I've always had the view that plasma needs to make sense without overcharging. Your captain is a melee monster. Whilst there is something to be said for shooting something, then bashing its last few wounds off with a melee beatstick, terminators aren't exactly the most mobile things and hence you might find it hard to keep Tyberos with the inceptors. So with that in mind, I think assault hellblasters or company veterans with combi-plasma or combi-meltas and storm shield would be good. I'd go the combi-melta and shields, as you can advance and hence move Tyberos around quicker whilst still having shooting and re-rolls without the risk of death via exploding plasma.

Got back to this list unexpectantly for a game tomorrow. I think my opponent thinks I am playing necrons.

2k Vanguard Raven Guard successor, Hungry for Battle, Whirlwind of rage

Tyberos

Chaplain-Canticle of hate, Relic: Benediction of fury, Master of Sanctity, jump pack WL Trait: Master of Ambush

Assault Intercessors x7 sgt has a thunderhammer

Infiltrators x5

Invictor Tactical suit with incendium cannon

Redemptor Dread with Plasma

Terminator Assault Squad x8 with T-hammer and storm shields

Vanguard vets/jump packs x6 all with storm shields,  and three thunder hammers, 1 power fist, 2 chainswords

Vanguard Vets/ jump packs x6 all with twin lightning claws and a sgt with t-hammer storm shield(because reasons)

Devastator Squad cherub and 4 grav cannons (complete)

Eradicator Squad x3 (complete)

The options my opponent has will be custodes, death guard and possibly Tau(but I think he has shelved them for now). Custodes I think seems the most likely with a mostly dread force.
