In response to the hail of heavy Bolt shells that suddenly tear their compatriot apart, the Repentia do not flee, but instead hurl themselves forward with cries of penitent devotion. The first, somehow uninjured despite being at the very forefront of the ambush, races at Decimus before he can heft his primary weapon. The massive chain-blade rises and falls, sending sparks and chips flying from his grey battle-plate.

 

The other Repentia attempts to do the same to the team's hulking Techmarine, but blood loss from Vesalius' precision Bolt fire has clearly drained her of almost all vitality and her slow, pitiful swing does not even come close.

But even as the shell is about to hit home, the Sister Superior sways suddenly, her eyes flickering as if entering a trance. Her head moves only an inch to the left, but it is enough that the projectile somehow passes across her shoulder and explodes against the structure behind her. She blinks at the sound of the impact, then looks up with a mixture of anger and awestruck joy towards the sniper's position. She begins to sing, raising her bolt pistol, drawing the long power blade from her hip and rushing forward into the foe. Her troops respond with similar zeal and a storm of firepower.

There is a shimmer of warp energy as the bolts directed up at Odysseus and Draak explode far before reaching their intended target. Svelk, however, blasting forward through the air, cannot hope to avoid every fragment of the torrent sent towards him, but his reinforced armour prevents most of it from doing any harm.

With a derisive, amused snort, Ithan brings his chainaxe down onto the neck of the weakened Repentia, severing yet another head with ease. Then, with an equally casual air, he raises the weapon in salute before stepping forward to meet the Superior's advance.

Odysseus watched as the sisters spread out below, organised but futile in light of their carelessnesss stumbling into the ambush and too fanatical to regroup in greater numbers.

 

The fire they had returned on his position was almost a disappointment, fanatical but not entirely stupid it would seem as those with lighter weapons turned on more opportune targets. A meltagun however was worthy of some attention... raising the Dioscuri he opened fire once more.

Where an hour ago there was little information, now there was almost too much, and certainly not enough time to sift through it carefully.  More, Orphiel was suspicious of all of it.  Anecdotal whispers about crimelords and gangs, a seedy drinking den, and now this place called 'the Site'.

 

As Brynjarr offered his thanks to the grandmother, Orphiel tested his theories.  Perhaps someone was tugging strings, but knowing criminals, it could as easily be an opportunist snatch, maybe for petty extortion.  Maybe just to gauge how much threat they were.  In the end it didn't matter if he liked it or not, with Holger gone, there was little choice.

The numbers were almost right. If he were to let himself drop, he might be able to just about land on one of the very corner of the vehicle.

 

Almost was enough to get you killed.

 

As he sees a jet of flame leap out of the weapons cupola and up towards where the Traveller has taken up postion, he triggers one last burst to his jump pack. He plummets down, gyrating round as he does so that he lands with his fleet solidly planted behind the cupola. His bolt pistol is already raised to her back.

You follow the market westward and gradually it becomes less and less populated. Finally you pass through a set of wide bulkhead doors, rusted open. Beyond them is a cavernous place of darkness and shadows. The rockcrete frames of several large hab blocks, never to be completed, lie like sleeping cuboid giants. A tall crane, a few other pieces of rusting engineering plant and various materials are scattered around the abandoned development. This is the Site.

 

A handful of glaring spotlights illuminate a small, open area at the centre. They also shine upon a sea of black emptiness, a vast, circular abyss that appears without warning in the surface of the Hive floor. One step, plasteel, rockcrete, dirt and dust. The next, an impossible nothingness that swallows all light in its depths.

 

The lumens also reveal half a dozen figures standing around the Site. Several of them are clustered at the very edge of the precipice around another figure, this one on its knees.

Rising from cover as Svelk descends upon the Immolator, the Traveller unleashes a strafing barrage of bolter-fire against the clustered Sisters, hoping to pin them in place for Draak's heavy bolter. The mass-reactive explosions stitch across their power armour, though he knows from grim experience not to count the Sororitas out until they are dead.

The enemy might be a threat to Hive traders and old women, but they are nothing compared to Astartes. They are poorly equipped with solid shot weaponry and simple blades. Only one - perhaps the 'Razor' that was mentioned before? - carries a truly dangerous item, a bolt pistol that appears to be of similarly ancient design to Von Caeryd's plasma weapon.

But even though these opponents are no more than pitiful dregs of men, they are surrounding Holger. At this point, his assailants would have more than enough time to cast him into the abyss before you could intervene!

After some thought, this may work better by moving into (semi) Structured Time?

You will need to get closer if you wish to rescue Holger. Please roll for Silent Move Tests. If you can stay out of the lit areas, the local's Awareness Tests will suffer -30 negative modifiers for Darkness.
