D10: 4

4+4 = Initiative 8

The Traveller readies himself, allowing the other Marines of the band to surge forward into the breach and be first into the fray.

Let others snatch and grasp hungrily for childish notions of glory and honour. All that matters is we carry the day.

It seems the crew of the Bounteous Lady have pooled the last and greatest of their strength here on the bridge. The Captain, his executive officers and a large squad of carapace armoured troops that you assume must be some kind of personal guard or Naval disciplinary unit, have taken up defensive positions, hiding behind cogitator units as best they can. With them are a small complement of the Adeptus Mechanicus, a pair of Tech-Priests and their attendant defence Servitors. They let loose with all their weapons before you even cross the breach, and the firepower unleashed makes just entering the bridge like walking into the teeth of a storm.

Pre-Battle Info:

gallery_27610_17040_62011.png

Map:

You are on a slightly raised balcony at the rear, so can look out over the bridge. You can see all enemy units, but also all of them can see you! There is a low decorative metal balustrade (2ft high, provides Cover AV8 against Hits on your legs - or all Hits if you are prone!) that runs around and down the stairs. The grey square in front is the Captain's command chair (4ft high, Cover AV12). The enemy units are sheltering (as many of them as are able, the large unit of Provosts will only get cover when their numbers drop from 25 to 10 Mag) behind Cogitator Banks (again 4ft high, Cover AV12). There is a large hololithic display in the centre of the chamber (2ft high, Cover AV12 against hits on legs - or all if prone). The display itself (green circle) provides no cover but can obscure visibility, shots that pass through it are at a -10 to hit.

Ambush!:

To represent the fact that the bridge crew know you are coming (and will have been warned by the detonation of the melta bomb) they will receive a Surprise Round. Obviously, you aren't actually 'surprised' by them shooting at you, but you are still attacking a prepared enemy through a bottleneck a handful of metres across, so realistically the chances are you'd take a few hits on the way in!

Finally, for the sake of ease of doing your rolls v TB and AVs, etc, I've posted the stats/rules/equipment of each of your opponents below:

The defenders were just as prepared for them as they were to storm the bridge, reacting to the fall of the blast door with a barrage of fire. A few stray shots rattled harmlessly of Brynjarr’s shield, but then the hot searing glow of incoming plasma stopped him in his advance, bracing for the unavoidable income the shield and armour took most of the blast, but even with it Brynjarr was now slightly singed.

Taking the opportunity to survey the bridge though his shield and helmet systems Brynjarr compiled several potential targets and fire lanes and shared them with the rest of the squads tactical HUDs.

Even as the defenders prepared for a second volley Brynjar was on the move, heading to the leftwards stairs and towards the presumed captain, fancier uniform and all. Lobbing a grenade towards the mass of Naval Provost that formed the first line of defense he registered several kill markers flare up in his HUD, but more importantly was the teams medical feed, several of the others had not withered the storm as well.  Better end this quickly.

Ok, just to cheek I am doing it right.

Based on this I believe our team cohesion is currently at 5

Spend 1 fate point to bring cohesion to 6, and then call Bolter Assault bringing cohesion to 3.

Use botler assault to move north easterly towards stairs as far as possible, then throw frag grenade at horde.

Under the withering fire from the Tech-Priest, Vesalius charged forward, teeth gritted against the searing pain from the plasma cutter, and fired upon the Naval Provost squad.

Severe burns to left arm; limb is still functional. Pain-suppressants have been released into the blood stream; another 10 seconds to take full effect. Die, scum!

They second they pass the portal, the air is filled with the thundering roar of weapons-fire. Svelk instinctively brings up his right arm to shield his optics, and feels the sharp bite of shrapnel lodging in the vambrace's underside.

Incomcoming fire. Minimal cover. Close. Close and gut them!

Letting out a snarl, Svelk bounds forwards and over the balustrade, racing towards the mass of ratings in the centre. As he did so he brought up his belt pistol in one hand, picked out a bridge officer behind the scrum of ratings, and took a shot.

Kai's order to launch an assault was all but drowned out by the roar of las and bolter fire as the group stepped onto the bridge. Odysseus could see that the lesser ratings turn their gaze from him in fear as he entered but such things had their cost - berift of fear one of the servitors within identified him as priority target and unleashed a hail of heavy bolt rounds.

Unlike the lesser las weapons they had faced these were created to fell even a space marine and he bore the brunt of the fire head on, the impacts kicking up a cloud of sparks and shrapnel. By all rights even one as durable as an astartes should have been maimed by such an onslaught but as Odysseus stepped forward the impacts upon his armour were not open rents but the glow of partially melted ceramite - as if the rounds had burnt themselves out against it, or perhaps had been burnt by some other force.

Even through his helmet a sense of palpable rage emanated from the librarian as he raised his hand once more, this time not the indescriminate lightning of previous attacks but a focused and piercing light that burnt cleanly through the servitor, the sheer heat of it incinerating a nearby officer that had the misfortune to stand too close to its path.

Altered action (as no dodge for surprise round)

Push smite the servitor to the north

Automatic psychic effect = 8-10 = nothing

Servitor and nearby officer take:

2+10+3+3+6+10+10+fury(2) = 46 damage, penetration 7, blast 7(no dodging that for the servitor) - Odysseus isn't happy about getting shot apparently.

Spend a fate point to recover 8 wounds

Edited by A.T.

Decimus one hands a frag grenade into the horde.  The blast claims a small cluster of them.

Straight ahead he could see a retreating man, an officer by the cut of his uniform, though of what rank was hard to tell from the back, further along was a Servitor, and it stood between them and the Captain, time to take it out. Moving further along the approach to the stairs leading down onto the main bridge level Brynjarr took a single shot which clipped the servitor on the right side, but the extent of damage was hard to gage.

Half Action Move further towards stairs.

The unit of Provosts' attention is understandably drawn to the ferocious Assault Marine leaping towards them. They open fire again, but the deaths and distraction caused by the grenades hurled by Svelk's brethren means that their previously fearsome firepower has been substantially degraded.

Edit: And unsurprisingly the slow moving Servitor gets a 65 and fails to Dodge Brynjarr's shot!

Edit edit: Realised I didn't roll a Dodge for Vesalius' nemesis TP either, got a 32 so managed to avoid the first Hit. So damage will be 17 total from Hit 2 and RF after AV1 and TB10?

Sparks and shrapnel erupted from the hololith emitter in front of the officer he'd targeted, the mortal starting at the detonation. It wasn't the only one. Ragged holes were torn in the provost formation as frag grenades tore through them. Servitors and tech-priests were staggering under the weight of his fellow Space Marine's fire, even their reinforced frames vulnerable to the weight of overwhelming firepower. A pattern of fire was being returned, Svelk could feel and hear the shots tinkling against his plate, but no pain.

Svelk, for his part, had already mag-clamped his bolt pistol to his armoured thigh as he hit the ground running, drawing his axe-rake and swinging it in a wide arc as he rammed into the mortal lines.

Quick Draw talent actions to ready axe-rake, then Charge action and attack into the horde.

Svelk's assault is devastating, undeterred by the pitiful shots directed at him. Between his axe-rake and the sheer weight of his armour and jump pack, the rest of the Provosts are smashed into submission. The tiny remnant still living turn and flee like they were the greenest of new recruits.

The Provost Unit auto-breaks due to losses and flees towards the front of the bridge.

The fearful young junior officer, seeing his finest troops horribly murdered in a matter of seconds, tries to take shelter under the protection of the gun Servitor. His efforts are utter futility as Odysseus unleashes his psychic rage and obliterates both with a bolt of pure energy.

Bridge Officer 1 and Servitor 1 are killed.

Next are the 2 Tech-Priests. I hope Mol and BC will forgive me but its nearly midnight here now, so I'll do the next rolls in the morning!!! :D

As the Traveller enters the bridge alongside the Iron Gods, they are met by a hail of gunfire. Much of it patters harmlessly from their warplate like rain, though he can distantly feel jagged shrapnel piercing through the ceramite, grinding against the attempts of his enhanced physiology and his armour's pharmacopoeia to negate the injury. No matter; it was not for nothing that he was known as Stormshroud. He had weathered far worse tempests than this and lived to tell the tale.

Already, the warriors around him are bringing death to those foolish enough to stand against them. He brings his bolter up, sighting along its length and catching a glimpse of what could only be the ship's Captain. Taking advantage of a single moment in the chaos, he squeezes the trigger before moving to avoid return fire; he does not even wait to see the results of his shot.

Raising the shield to protect himself the plasma bolt glanced of the top of the shield, some of its power spent. The remaining energy nonetheless connected, hammering on Brynjarr’s Helmet. Staggered from the impact, and with the HUD  and other systems temporarily down, he reached up to check the damage. His helmet was damaged, the outer layers flash melted and now hardening, however there was a silver lining, there was no pain, and no obvious breach in his armour, it had taken the brunt of the force, he was good to continue as part of the HUD flickered back to life.

Decimus aims at the unwounded defense servitor blasting it into chunks of meat and metal.

***

With the sudden, terrifying destruction of the second Servitor, there is a momentary lull in the thunderous barrage. A haze of smoke, lit a difused green in places by the light from the hololith, is beginning to form across the bridge. The Captain, desperately trying to staunch his wounds, looks fearfully over the cogitator banks.

This is the first opportunity the Kill-Team has had to interact personally with the Captain. Before we go into a Round 2, if anyone wants to make the attempt - with some suitable narrative of course - the Captain could be encouraged to surrender? This would be a Very Hard (-30) Charm Test opposed to the Captain's Wp.

...alternatively, you might now be more inclined to kill everyone on the bridge, with the exception of one with just enough breath to give you the information you need, in which case we can go straight to Round 2!

Placeholder, potentially try to persuade captain  to surrender, see OCC post.

Dead post, placeholder intent superseded by post below. If I can think of some fluff to fill this post with I will.

Vesalius kept his bolt pistol leveled at the Tech-Priest with whom he had been exchanging fire, but took a moment during the sudden lull in pleasantries between the aggrieved parties present to drink in the cries of pain and take in the smells of blood and fyceline. He allowed himself a small smile under his beak-nosed helm, despite the severe burns he had sustained.

+Captain, I see you are bleeding, badly. Whether you live or die is immaterial to us and Talek Varn, but if you order your men to stand down and turn over your data logs, I may deign to staunch your wound, and we can leave enough of you alive to crew your ship. As it stands, your cargo of pilgrims you were ferrying have gone to join the Emperor in the deep void, and your men have been like lambs to the slaughter. It's your choice.+

Intimidate (using Int as alternative per OOC)

Intimidate: 52 (int) + 5 (lead by example) = 57

Intimidate: 1d100 40

The Captain, a big man with a big, slightly unkempt beard looks out for a moment with faint hope. Then his eyes fill again with suspicion and foolhardy anger. "What kind of idiot do you take me for?" he roars back stubbornly, "Such scum as you never showed mercy to anyone, or my name is not Johan Abstemious Tragg!"

For those of you who feel any concern over taking the lives of 'innocent' Imperial citizens, at least you can know that the offer has been made. Now it is time to finish this.

"A fine name," the Traveller replies. "Let us see if the Emperor remembers it, or if He deems your pathetic sacrifice worthy of any recognition at all."

Then battle is rejoined.
