simison
Was working with a new project member about the Mechanicum and his new Forgeworld when he said in a single year, the Forgeworld saw billions die in a civil war. Then he said that this was considered normal for any Forgeworld on an annual basis. That most Forgeworlds have some of war that routinely kills millions and billions at any point in time, whether it’s purging mutants or in-fighting. Is that true? Are the Forgeworlds that unstable, constantly? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/370243-mech-instability/ Share on other sites
UtariOnzo
It’s plausible. Terra itself has numerous Queue Riots that from our perspective would look like full scale wars. You have to remember that the population scale of Forge and Hiveworlds is well beyond mere single digit billions, and power struggles between the cities and pseudo nations of a Forgeworld may well occur. All the Imperium and Mars would care about, ultimately, is that the quotas are met. simison
And this would hold true before 40k? I get that everything has to suck in the End Times, but we’re currently operating in the 30k era. Does the lore state that it’s better, worse, or equal? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/370243-mech-instability/#findComment-5698739 Share on other sites
Xenith
Well, current [Earth] population growth is nearly a billion more people every ~20 years. Multiply that by 28,000 years into the future ad you get a whole lot of people. Remember that bodies is the currency the Imperium can forever trade in. Black Knight
Almost all Forgeworlds are either under attack or regularly find themselves between attacks. Humans are replaceable, Lucius shows this by fighting the Tyranids attacking their world with servitors and retrieving the technology after the bodies are eaten. They then simply resupply the biomass(Another servitor) and send them back out. There are also rumours of certain planets using farming/factory grown methods when it comes to repopulation. It has never been stated how the Mechanicus procreate but you can bet its methodical and efficient, tech priests don't have time for love, there are too many hymns to be sung and too many STCs to find to get busy. Namely we can probably not even imagine how fast they can produce an army, especially when it doesn't even have to be sentient or brought to maturity to be useful. And lastly something we probably don't think about is that these Forgeworls are stable, it may not look like it but loosing millions, or even a billion, to a riot or attack is simply the cost of doing business for the 41st Millenium. It’d be about equal, maybe a bit better in the Crusade era, but even then the Mechanicum and the Imperium were not ‘good’ places for the common man or adept Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/370243-mech-instability/#findComment-5698892 Share on other sites
simison
Hmmm. I appreciate all of the input in regards to this macro view of the Mechanicum/Mechanicus.
