My idea is to have a Silver Templars Captain stood atop something (perhaps a couple of inches high), sword raised, challenging 3 charging Khorne Berzerkers.

There's not much real established lore for the ST yet, so I'm not sure how Novaris looks, and I'm not sure I want it to be based in Khorne's realm... What else could look good? Need some inspiration.

What do you have that might be used as a base decoration? Alternately, what would you be willing to purchase? A dead juggernaut, for example, might be cool. Alternately, a daemon prince or some sort of Chaos spawn (perhaps a minotaur or something similar) might also work.

Alternately, you might consider terrain. Novaris has a feudal society with low technology and appears to have diverse biomes, allowing you to use just about any terrain features you want. Perhaps your protagonist is standing atop a small dais on which there is a statue or other decoration of the Imperium.

Hmm, I think less is more in general with a diorama.

I would start simple by building multiple plateau's of slab stones.I think one of the main things that makes a diorama look cool is by adding height and depth to it. What you put on the slabs is up to you.

Maybe the ST captain is guarding a relic? an inquisitor or a saint? maybe he delved deep in a chaos ship and is carving his way towards the reactor core to detonate it? Maybe theres a dying brother nearby and he needs to buy time for the apothecary to extract the geneseed?

Do you have any sort of back ground story where you can draw inspiration from? Where is your force in your head in the setting right now? Are they in space? Are they defending an imperial world or are they attacking a chaos stronghold?

You at least have this strong urge to make him battle 3 Berzerkers, so maybe turn it around, what are the berzerkers doing? Why are they on planet X? I would like to believe that even Khorne followers have a goal when attacking something versus throwing a dart on a board to decide where to attack next at random.

Check out AOS terrain.

One Khorne themed dais.  Fairly cheap too HERE

Turn the arch into a portal similar to the AOS Realm Gates (second picture).

Either have your captain driving the deamons back into the gate, or have him follow the deamons through the gate to hunt after them.

Something else to try would be to make it look like your 3 models are more than three.

You could have one deamon slain, missing an arm and leg, but cover up the cuts with smoke or fire effect to look like the form is evaporating back into the warp.

Then take the body parts you cut off to make it look like another deamon coming through the portal... kind of like the necron on the new Monolith model.

Excellent ideas, though they require a lot of effort to achieve.
