I've been using impcat for a hile and decided to share my little experiment on how accurately it can mock up paintjobs with B&C.

This is the impcat mockup:

This is my painting using the same colors:

impcat has tidier highlighting and better color separation of course but I'd say it does a good job, in case anyone is curious.

Note: I am in no way affiliated with the software, just a customer.

I've found it quite handy and I was particularly impressed how well it simulates metallic paints. I just wish I could find more files for GW miniatures. It's nice to see a finished model based on the original image.

Try the impcat sub-Reddit, they have a link to a bunch of files for 40k models.

That looks very useful indeed! Doing test models is fine when I have a bunch to do, but I do sometimes struggle with getting models to match what's in my head when doing one-offs or small groups, like the BSF models I'm painting right now - and stripping and starting over is a lot less worthwhile when I'm not going to be re-using the scheme again.

The reddit community looks pretty good for sharing schemes, and the associated collection of additional model SVGs (pictures of models to paint, basically) and paint lines that can be imported. The beta apparently supports colourshift paints too, which would be VERY handy for some models I've got planned.

Think I'll give it a go!

Love this app, purchased it about eight or nine months ago, and love being able to test ou colour schemes before I commit to buying colours and putting paint to plastic. Great range of miniatures available to paint on the subreddit and there’s a huge range of paint brands to experiment with.
