Doghouse
Thanks mate :) I'm not sure just yet but my first obvious thought was black and yellow striped, not sure how that would look though. I'm currently researching these a lot and it does sound most likely they'd stick rigidly to the structure laid on in the Principia Belicosa up until they were united with their Primarch. So maybe black and red or black and white. I'm part of the way into Perturabo and there is some good info in there, I'm beginning to see why the Iron Warriors were so upset now. Doghouse
Bit of an update but not masses. Working on the gold trim for now batch painting but have been reading up on the latest exploits of the Iron Warriors and finding inspiration. I'm seriously rusty on Heresy lore but having read Perturabo and found out the spoilers from Mortis it does give me more to work with. I won't go into details but their battle with the Hrud was extremely interesting and demonstrates how they behave in combat and the resentment they feel to new guys joining their squads replacing brothers they have long fought alongside. It gives a Vietnam Platoon vibe in some respects and this is something I want to incorporate by adding a few shiny marines into the squads whose armour is pretty clean and unsoiled due to them being the newbies. I've never been a massive fan of Perturabo but having read the novel and gained some insights he is growing on me. I was going to get the model but to be honest I can't see how he'd fit into my force and feels like he's more at home in a command centre than on the front lines. Pearson73
Nice idea for newer squad members to have cleaner armour, cool way to meld lore and models. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/370462-iv-legion/page/2/#findComment-5706481 Share on other sites
Doghouse
Thanks, I think it'll be interesting although it may make them look a bit patchy I can tie them together with stuff like basing. I like the idea because it shows the attrition they suffer and I can play around with weathering. SkimaskMohawk
While I like the idea of having newer members be cleaner you have to be a little careful; too much of a difference makes the clean models look unfinished and ruins cohesion. Perturabo was a great read for sure. Emperor's Architect is a companion to it, and Angel Exterminatus, Tallarn, Slaves to Darkness and Solar War all build on the definitive version of Perturabo. Amazingly, Haley wrote the worst Perturabo ever in Lost and the Damned so skip that one. They also might give you a better idea on how to include him in games; he seems to like taking to the field and breaking the enemy at the apex of the engagement. Black Judges, Hrud, Imperial Fists, Angron; hes there with his retinue to guarantee victory. This translates in game to his ability to deepstrike automatically on any turn with his unit, and a popular use is to dump a full squad of tyrants some where extremely inconvenient. Doghouse
Thanks for the insights. The approach I am taking is that weathering will be applied from whatever basing I do so it looks more uniform. You'll have the older guys with soot and ash and grim but all of them both old and new will have weathering applied from the base. So if I go urban it'll be brick and concrete dust, if I go trench it'll be mud, etc. At the moment I'll using washes of nuln oil and aggrax for the vets and just aggrax for the newbies, it should be subtle but noticeable with any luck. Doghouse
Not really had much time for painting but have gotten some additions to what will be the rest of the footsloggers. I am seriously considering getting a few of the FW Termites now as transports. These will be a twelve man boarding team which will probably be in one of the Termites. I make give them Anvilus pattern backpacks to show that they also specialise in zero gee space assaults. I do have a ton of the newer MkIV suits as well but may do those as Night Lords.
