Pointystick11
Hey all, With the release of the new codex I have been inspired to go back and work on some mechanicus models that I hadn't gotten around to painting yet. I've had a hard time settling on a colour scheme for these models, as there's so much going on with every sculpt. However, I do think I want to do something inspired by the borg from Star Trek. I was thinking about trying to experiment by doing green OSL for weapon glows and occular implants. However, there is a LOT of black on Star Trek borg, and I think the scheme would fall flat with too much black. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion of what I can toss in to add some variety while still remaining true to the idea. So far I can only really see greys and silvers mixing well, but again that seems a bit dull. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! INKS
The trick to black colored armies is highlighting with grey or maybe even a dark blue for the highlights. going flat black isn't going to look too good. maybe even something like stormhost silver might be good. It doesn't have to be too complicated, a simple dry brush. you could even use a really dark green. that might also look good. NovemberIX
I got this piece of advice from a black templars player, but don't use a full black as your base, add in a bit of grey so you can use full black for shadow. A bit of silver flake and some clear medium would let you add a metallic sheen as well for a nice effect. walter h 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/370468-borg-inspired-colour-scheme/#findComment-5705218 Share on other sites
Bjorn Firewalker
Use silver to trim the armor, the trimming serving to outline the plates and allow a viewer to visually differentiate them. Without the different colored trimming, the model will visual devolve into a blob. Luku
For a good Borg Black: Start with a Corax White base (No, really!) Wash with Contrast Black Templar Wash again with Nuln Oil (Regular or Gloss, your choice) This way you get a black that's dark enough for purpose but you can still see the edges, drybrushing is an optional extra if you want the edges brought out more sharply.
