Cadian 8th - "Creed's Legacy"

I return to 40k after more than 10 years, to find out Cadia was destroyed?! I thought we won the 13th Black Crusade!

Can't stand for this, have to muster. Stripping all old Cadians, and repainting them:

Creed Lives!

Cheers, fellow guardsmen.

Here are some "before" pics, for anyone afraid of stripping old minis. Huge money saver (and you don't have to worry about scraping mold lines, already done.)

Wow. These look great! Super clean. I particularly like how you've done the cloth. The highlighting is so smooth. Any tips?

Also, we definitely won the 13th black crusade. Huge Imperial victory. Cadia stands and creed lives! Didn't want you spreading any misinformation...

Thanks, man!

Yeah, the cloth turns out pretty consistent. I use Steel Legion Drab for basecoat, then mix in Zandri Dust for highlight, and very small amounts of vallejo game color bonewhite for top highlights.

If you use Steel Legion Drab basecoat, highlight with a mix 1:1: steel and zandri, then pure zandri, then last layer is approximately 2:1 zandri with vallejo bonewhite. Just keep the paint thinned down and layer it slowly up each curve of the cloth (as if you're drybrushing it), and it gets a nice flow to it.

After you highlight, if you need to darken some creases, water down the steel legion drab into a wash and wash tiny amounts into the crevice until it darkens. Used agrax earthshade for hard creases (around pockets, etc).

Thank you, all!

Got a few more to churn out this weekend, then we can deploy to Octarius (and show these Orks how to spell commando correctly!)

These are brilliant! Your painting style suits the Kasrkin particularly well! Would you mind sharing your approach to the armour?

Cheers

So the camo pattern is basically triangles or "broken glass" patterns (about 1-3 triangles/rectangles per armor section) painted with Skrag Brown and with edge trims using Vallejo Game Color Bonewhite. I'd recommend taking your time and portion it out to small sections, like shoulder pads, knee pad, chest plate, and work slowly.

Start with a normal Cadian scheme (khaki fatigue, green armor), have that completed and highlighted, and then paint the Skrag Brown pattern down and trim it with Bonewhite.

Also a good trick: apply your decals to the shoulder pad first, then apply the camo pattern around it.

Wow Vinny!

So clean and smooth!

Will these just be for Octarius, or will you build an army?

I for one would love to see more.

Thanks!

At this time, focusing on Kill Team 2.0, but I get the feeling I'll probably be doing a Cadian version of the "Veteran Guardsmen" list. Perhaps Kill Team 2.0 might throw in vehicles one day.... perhaps a Sentinel Boss-Battle?

Crazy last months of 2021, but needed reinforcements have finally arrived!

New Sergeant for Squad 182nd:

Comms (and regimental poker champion), plasma gunner, and Sniper (and coincidentally, the regiment's ranking Culinary Specialist/black market liaison):

Snacks for long range recon missions:

And finally, some needed reinforcements for the Kasrkins:

This leaves two more Kasrkins, and the Killteam should be completed.

Happy New Year, all!

Wow those colours and textures! Amazing

What paints are you using?

Paints are mostly Citadels with some Vallejo.

Undercoat - Black primer

Khaki Fatigues - Steel Legion Drab basecoat, Zandri Dust / Steel Legion Drab mix 1:1 for first layer, then pure Zandri Dust for second layer, and Zandri Dust / Vallejo Game Color Bonewhite mix 1:1 for final highlight.  Washes consist of steel legion drab thinned down with water or Agrax Earthshade for the darker recesses.

Armor - Castellan Green basecoat, Castellan Green / Elysian Green mix for first layer of edge-highlight, then pure Elysian Green for final layer of edge-highlight. Wash is Nuln Oil  for crevices.

Skintone - I guess that depends on the ethnicity I'm trying to paint, but often came out looking Caucasian no matter what I tried :laugh.:. But can't go wrong with Bugman flesh basecoat, and highlight up to Vallejo Pale Flesh. (This is a helpful video I often reference for flesh tone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbdTbuKIRkk&t=14s)

Just a PSA if anyone interested: a wet palette is a huge game changer and, at this point, a necessity for me

These look straight from White Dwarf or something, I really like how matt the colours are excellent stuff as ever

Nah, not seen skin tones that smooth in WD in years, Id say these are better.

I've not read WD in years so I suppose that checks out?

I should look into wet palettes some day as I've heard much about them...
