firestorm40k
The Guardsman's limbs quivered as he finally succumbed to the pox, grey lines spreading across his skin. Lord Pourrant tossed him aside, and turned to his cohort; they were finishing off the last of the resisting soldiers, and something approaching a smile split his sore encrusted face. It made the blackened, diseased muscles that once were his primary and secondary hearts swell with joy - seeing the misguided followers of the corpse emperor enlightened with the truth of Nurgle. 'Come, my brothers,' he said, his voice a phlegm-slathered rasp. 'There are yet more this day who need to have their eyes opened to the Truths of entropy and decay. They hold on to false hopes, but soon they will be embraced by the true Father. And it is our joyous duty to open their eyes!' He turned and began to march forward, as he did the Plague Marines and Blightlords of his cohort joined in step - their chanted praises to the Seven Exalted of Nurgle a monotonous drone that mingled with the atonal buzzing of the bloated flies, which were erupting from the corpses around them." Greetings fellow acolytes of the Plague Father, I thought I would post some pictures of the Death Guard army I am working on. Last year, 2020, I did something I didn't think I'd have the chance to do for several years (mostly 'thanks' to Covid and the associated lockdowns) - I painted a 2,000+ point 40k army. This gave me motivation to do the same this year, and I decided it would be Death Guard. Between Conquest magazine, kits I'd bought for Kill Team, Space Marine Heroes Series 3, and getting the old starter sets before they were replaced, I accumulated the minis and models to make a 2000 point army. As I want to get the whole thing done this year, I'm batch painting using some faster techniques - which means these aren't the neatest models I've painted, but they look suitable for Death Guard! I'm also making extensive use of washes and Contrast paints - I wish these were around 20 years ago when I was still fairly new to the hobby, they're so useful :D Anyway, here are the pictures - the first phase was painting the four Plague Marine squads that are the backbone of the army. These took three months, painting in bulk, blocking in each colour on all 28 at a time (!). I'm pleased with the results - they'll look alright on the table top! Next I'm painting the HQ and a Foetid Virion - my aim is to have them done for the end of July. Then it's on to 40 Poxwalkers... Thanks for looking! :) Edited June 2, 2021 by firestorm40k Dr_Ruminahui, lansalt, Brother Kraskor and 7 others 10 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/370514-the-host-of-lord-pourrant-my-death-guard-army/ Share on other sites
Jalgar
Excellent narrative; short and descriptive. I really enjoyed it. Your Death Guard are looking sick...in a good way of course. firestorm40k 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/370514-the-host-of-lord-pourrant-my-death-guard-army/#findComment-5706384 Share on other sites

firestorm40k
This week I finished the final units for this army, two Plagueburst Crawlers - so this army is complete :) I've not had the chance to get pictures of the rest of the army since finishing the Plague Marines, so now everything is complete I thought I'd rectify that! After the Plague Marines I worked on the HQ and Foetid Virion; I painted both a Lord of Contagion and a Lord of Virulence, so I've got a choice of which to use in games. I forgot to take pics of the backs of the Lord of Virulence and Plaguecaster - there are more pics on my Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/CRoox54npdF/?utm_medium=copy_link https://www.instagram.com/p/CSClTvQtxVn/?utm_medium=copy_link Next I painted two full units of Poxwalkers - thank goodness for Contrast paints and Washes, is all I'll say  To finish off I painted some Daemon Engines - a pair of Foetid Bloat Drones and a pair of Plagueburst Crawlers. And here's the whole army (over two pics as one was too large for B&C's gallery to handle :D) I'll come back to this army to add some Blightlord Terminators and Deathshroud, as well as some Myphitic Blight Haulers - but that'll be a couple of years at least, as there's other stuff I want to paint first. Thanks for looking! :) Tallarn Commander, WrathOfTheLion, El_Dicko and 3 others 6 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/370514-the-host-of-lord-pourrant-my-death-guard-army/#findComment-5769432 Share on other sites
Dr_Ruminahui
Those are looking great - you've really pulled of the death guard look even with a non-traditional colour scheme - indeed, going with such a light colour as your yellow as the main colour really make the grimeyness of the scheme stand out. firestorm40k 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/370514-the-host-of-lord-pourrant-my-death-guard-army/#findComment-5770143 Share on other sites

The idea for the streaky armour came from the original 3rd Edition Chaos Marine Codex (1999, iirc) - there was an example where someone had painted a Plague Marine, streaking paint downwards after applying the ink wash. I thought using that technique as the basis for the scheme would make a change from the traditional highlighted style for 40k armies.
