He hasn’t been released yet and I’ve not seen much talk about him.

We know he’s in a box set featuring Thousand Sons and Grey Knights. Do we know anything else?

I’m going to take a shot in the dark here...

I always felt like GW designed Thousand Sons to be strong users of Warp engines of war. I was alepways bothered that we never got to use the Malefic Psychic powers and obviously I feel we should have had our own version.

So my thinking as soon as I heard the name was ‘this is our spin on the master of possession ‘. What do you guys think? Am I way off on this one or is there perhaps some more info I’m unaware of?

At only 90 pts, it's unlikely to be a centrepiece of the new army to buff Rubrics, enhance Scarabs and protect Magnus.

I still stand by my first take on it:

"It would be nice to have a load of new models to expand the range, but they aren't necessarily needed as long as the rules writers come up with good ways to get the most out of the units that already exist...

The Infernal Master is probably some kind of Daemon-Wrangler who will be HQ of daemon detachments. Hopefully this will allow Screamers, Spawn, Flamers [and Mutalith Vortex Beast] to feel more like integral parts of the army, and receive a full range of spell-buffs, rather than a bolted-on detachment from the Chaos Daemons codex."

The more I think about it, the more ambiguous it gets. Like protecting, my first instinct is daemon engines. Second, just daemons(and by extension daemon engines). Who knows. I just see a new hq with his own set of powers to choose from and not much more than that.

I'd prefer our own version of a sorcerer/dark tech priest down the road when GW finally gets around to making some unique daemon engines.

I'm thinking it's a Lieutenant that also provides an additional buff to Inferno Bolt Weapons (Infernal Fusillade/Infernal Master).

I'm pretty sure it's going to be a 1kS specific Terminator Sorcerer or a Master of Possessed (or other new CSM HQ) with an upgrade sprue, which I'd be happy with.

I'm not fussy, I just hope he has an interesting niche (basically the opposite of what we got with the DG's new HQ release, as much as I love the model). A Daemon Engine specialist could be fun.

Absolutely no chance it will be either of those things. The Infernal Master will be its own kit, not an upgrade sprue, and isn't going to be a Terminator.

The name feels like a daemonic reference, but it's hard to say for sure. I too feel like it'll be a MoP role, at least in the concept of a supporting unit. I'm looking forward to finding out more as a new model for Sons :) That said, as much as a new model has interested me if the box set is a damp squib it'll be easy to make one with some Exalted Sorcerer bits so I suppose it's the rules that matter the most?

I'd be keen for varying sorcerers to act in the same way as Crypteks - weak and low level but with good passive buffs and abilities. I think it's the plasmancer that gets a free D3 mortals on a unit within 24" every turn - that's basically a zero cast, undenyable smite.

Also an excuse for GW to sell us 3-5 new Sorcerer models.

Probably be some time before we get any more news. Speaking of time, speculation on this? We have a new edition of sigmar and 40k orks to get through. Guessing late July/august for this stuff.

My guess is the boxed set arrives before the Codexes (August) and we see GK and TS in September.

Followed by Imperial Knights, Chaos Knights and Tyranids.

First I thought Infernal Master would help Daemon stuff, either summoning or buffing nearby engines.

Then, I thought that they'd make the Infernal Master be all about buffing Cultists because of the Ritual of the Damned crap. Like they're disciples or apprentices. Remember that some sort of Thrall is now an upgrade for us, so maybe Thrall Wizards are coming back (aka Familiars for any character)

Lately I'm thinking that Infernal Master will be like Ignis. A calculating logistics guy who buffs nearby Inferno Bolt weaponry. What if he provides an aura of +1 damage for Inferno weaponry. What if he causes exploding hits on 6s for inferno bolts? What if he makes them AP-4 and ignore cover.

In any case I think we will be surprised.
