Is the only way to include a primarch in ZM games to use the Primarchs Chosen rite of war?

Also, do legion specific units 'count as' other equivalent units? for instance, are Lernaean Terminators considered to be Legion Terminators?

  1. Yes due to the otherwise always on 25% LoW requirement
  2. No; they must be specfically called out.

I feel the need to clarify that last bullet point. Rights of War will specifically outline that "Legion specific units count" in the text. So when Slips means they must be called out, they mean the RoW must say "This also includes any Legion specifc Terminator squads which are also Elites choices." or variation thereof.

I think it’s less the power level than the unbalancing effect Primarchs would have at that level, especially with the kind of armies the ZM restrictions encourage. You can include lots of really nasty stuff in a ZM list but, even in big games, the presence of a Primarch is usually a massive focus.

It won’t always be that good – if you’re playing Capture Ground with 5 objectives to hold and you’re committed to 415 points of non-scoring Alpharius, you’re probably in for a tough time against a list tailored to play the mission. But at 1,000 points with mostly infantry on the table, it is all going to be about 1 model.

The way my group used to incorporate Primarchs in ZM was for everyone to bring a “normal” 1000 point list and their Primarch. It meant there was always a “standard” game going on even with the big lads running around, and meant we got to use them while most of us still only had small armies, instead of leaving them on the shelf for literally years.

But that was practical because everyone in the group was playing Legion lists, owned their Primarch, and there were only ~25-50 points between them, which is easy to balance with 1-2 extra bits of wargear before the game. And if somebody didn’t want that in the game, we could just leave the Primarch out and still had a valid army.

If you’re playing with strangers, in a tournament, where there are possible big points mismatches like Dorn vs Magnus, you have a White Scars player in the group, or Auxilia, etc., that idea won’t really work.

All good points for sure. In short, I'd just let people know your taking a primarch and if they want to play against it. I mean, they're not obligated to play you if you show up with one anyway, but this save some time.

Unless, of course, the whole point is a surprise primarch :smile.:

ZM force org charts hve no LoW slot.

Shoving the Primarch into HQ is the only way to deploy them in those cramped corridors.

I don't think this qualifies as a true necrobump, but apologies if it does...

the Primarch's Chosen RoW states that Legion Terminators or Veteran squads must be taken as compulsory troops, but doesn't add in the 'and may be taken as non compulsory troops' caveat, so I presume I'm correct in thinking that if your foc has no compulsory troops (e.g a zone mortalis attacker) then you cannot in fact take Terminators or Veterans as troops, yes?
