Cruor Vault
The math on a Boltstorm Gauntlet VS MC Power Sword is almost totally even. The Sword is essentially -1 to wound compared to the fist's -1 to hit. There's a few rare outliers where the Gauntlet is better than the sword, but many more situations the sword is better than the Gauntlet (due to AP). You also get the gun, which can help plink off a few wounds here and there. Xenith
more situations the sword is better than the Gauntlet (due to AP). Both are ap-3 though, right? Great shout on the math, I'd never considered looking at them like that, -1 to hit vs -1 to wound. I think when swords were S:User the fist was a no brainer, but the sword is actually great now, so usable on either model, and you wound marines on a 2+ if you're using BA Chapter rules. Blindhamster
Both are cool, I like the regular gravis captain with boltstorm, mostly because I made a cool model for it :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/370707-which-gravis-captain/#findComment-5711506 Share on other sites
Karhedron
I like the HBR model better and it is 10 points cheaper. For other Chapters, the extra hitting power of the Fist is a draw but we get better mileage out of our MCPS against most targets. Karhedron
So I am toying with turning my captain into a little tank: Chapter master- T6, +1W, S2+ Iron resolve- +1W, 6+++ For a total of T6, 9W, S2+, 4++, 6+++ Yes, you can build something very nice. Personally I would rather base a tanky character on a bike Captain. While you get 1 wound less, you still get T5 base and much faster movement. The only downside is that for some reason, biker captains cannot access MCPS/Relic blade. But I've never been a huge fan of marine bikes, even the outriders are kinda eh Inquisitor_Lensoven 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/370707-which-gravis-captain/#findComment-5711562 Share on other sites

The Unseen
Is that cloak sculpted Blindhamster or is it a bit from something? Looks great. And I run a jump pack smash chapter master, mostly because He's cool. But I turn him into an absolute brick as I tend to throw him into the worst fights and he (usually) rewards me. Though the build would probably be better as a biker, but Gabriel flies and thats all there is to it. Angel Artifice, Gift of Foresight, and the 2nd warlord trait stratagem for the Artisan of War for Adamantine Mantle, with a TH and SS. Final result is a flying, T5, 6 Wound, 1+, 4++, 5+++, with a free save reroll every turn, and you can spend a CP to reroll 2 failures in the same phase if you really need too. I've had him survive a chaos castellan knight shooting and follow up stomp. (He fired the Shieldbreaker at my Chaplain and the volcano lance at a dread, and figured 4 meltaguns, the plasma, and the 2 top guns would be enough. When it wasn't he charged in, and only dropped him to 3 wounds. The Captain swung back, killed the knight, and did actually die when the knight exploded and did a ton of mortals. If you wanted to replicate that, I would definitely use the Indomitus Captain, and throw on Angel Artifice for the 1+ save. Though with the 4++ vs mortals already, you could probably skip the mantle and pick something else. Blindhamster
Is that cloak sculpted Blindhamster or is it a bit from something? Looks great. the base model is Tor Garradon. For the cloak I put a fine layer of liquid GS over it and stippled it so it would have a slight fur texture. The tabbard and abdomen are sculpted though Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/370707-which-gravis-captain/#findComment-5712546 Share on other sites
BLACK BLΠFLY
You can jack the sword to the burning blade and take Imperium Sword WLT for melee carnage. Inquisitor_Lensoven
You can jack the sword to the burning blade and take Imperium Sword WLT for melee carnage.my goal is to make him as durable as possible, the MC sword, and chapter tactics will make him pretty darn deadly in melee as it is...maybe even have a priest/apothecary tag along to make him even more annoying.
