What paints (citadel) or otherwise do you use to paint your sons? Ahriman? Beast bois?

Trying to see what I would need to get in order to paint up the collecting box.

What are the current books needed rules wise for T Sons.

8th Ed codex - I'll wait for 9th at this point

Main Rule book - got it.

Others?

If you want the classic Sons scheme look no further than Duncan's painting tutorial on GW's YouTube channel

There is the Ritual of the Damned Psychic Awakening book with some treats for Sons like the Cults, but I expect that to get supplanted by the new codex so I'd hold off on any book acquisitions and focus on the model side for now :)

I based my scheme on Duncan's tutorial too as it's a good way of approaching the models and getting a nice gold - the rest is just colour replacement to taste :smile.: I almost went with an orange until my blue/purple won out, keep painting the model in mind when assembling as some of the areas are small and fiddly to get at as you're blocking in around the gold.

It will take longer but I'd consider leaving the loincloth parts off so you can access the legs better to do the orange. Especially with things like the stripes that appear in places - be sure to double check which cloth goes on which set of legs before reaching for the glue :tongue.: They can be a pain being careful not to go over the gold (and more so when you fail), so it's not a fast army to paint for anyone never mind those of us without good eyesight, but the results are always worth it

Don't forget to keep us updated on your army's progress :D

Ok, interesting. so leave the loin clothes off when painting? what about the arms and bolter / weapons?

Not sure how I am going to paint the Tzaangors yet but I'll start with the Rubric marines and go from there.

Edit: Not sure what to do with bases either yet, but that is the least of my issues. lol

Yes, keep weapons and backpacks off too - this is fairly standard I think anyway but you will need access to the chests for blocking in as well as some pipes and gemstones :tu:

Bases can come last if needed anyway, no rush there and maybe seeing the completed scheme will give you inspiration :)

what does an icon of flame look like?  -- looked it up and I see what it looks like.

Edit:

I am not used to painting arms separate. shoulder pads on the arms?

I'll have to get some corks or something.

thanks for the advice.

I've not used the Icon of Flame much, it's kind of alright but that's scant praise. Though I did have one go off a lot in Kill Team which was amusing but short of some notable change in the upcoming (relatively) new codex I don't see them working their way out of the "floating points" category much.

The shoulder pads come in matching pairs if you care about that level of detail, if you're doing arms separately I'd put the shoulder pads on them otherwise it's a lot more faff. As long as you make sure to dry fit them so the shoulder pads don't obstruct anything when gluing to the torso you'll be fine, that said I think the Rubrics are pretty forgiving here :)

Yeah I am building for Kill Team right now and plan to extend into 40k.

I might have to pick up some extra bits for aspiring sorcerer's and 1 extra occult sorcerer.

or maybe use exalted sorcs. I dunno yet.

I've always been tempted to paint up some Rubrics & Scarabs in the old 30k Legion colours (Red & white).

And there is a gorgeous looking 10-man squad of Rubrics in the current issue of White Dwarf (465 - with the Gargant on the front), painted with Hexwraith flame.

I don't know if I'd want to mix & match my rubric squads in a single battalion, so I paint them all traditional turquoise & gold, but maybe I need three separate T-Sons armies...

I just hope I can do them justice via painting. I've ordered the collecting box to get started and that will probably last me until we see whatever comes out in the new box set with the new codex.

Ok, I got my supplies in. I built two models completely in order to know how they go together. kinda complicated.

I need a better glue. what do you guys use?

I have to say, I don't like building them. just so many pieces, mold lines I can't see and so on. what can you do though.

Going to prime them up and probably paint tomorrow. pictures soonish

Slight change of plans. I am going to prime them gold as it says to in the video. Then I might try to do an Orange Armor instead of blue. At this point the models are so small and my hands so bad that I am going to try to limit the colors used. I might make them Custodes 1K Sons. lol Not what I intended but it might be easier.

I may have found a person to do the painting for me. And the assembling. They said it doesn't matter to them.

About 6.50 Cdn per model. Well worth it. It might be a little while but I'll post pictures when there is some progress made.

Cheating perhaps but I really don't like putting the models together. And I am not a good painter so if I can get them done for a reasonable price and they look reasonably good. parade quality then I'll be happy.

I have an idea on what I want to do with them via a battle board, or a parade board. I need to look up the dimensions on the size of those boards normally. It's mostly just for display and it's a long way off but I'd like to have the whole 2k points (eventually) in a Pyramid that comes apart.

Edit: I've got ideas out the butt. Just lack the talent.

Needs must, if you're struggling them seeking help isn't a bad thing. Maybe you could do some of the work to have a part in it and potentially reduce the cost, even if it's something basic like some of the basing as it'd be nice to know that you did part of the army :)

I plan to do the basing myself, I have an idea on what I want it to look like. Painting the bases should be easy, large area to work with even on the 32mm bases. I asked about priming and building them but he doesn't seem to care / it doesn't effect the price. I am still waiting to hear back so I might have counted my chickens before they were hatched.

Ok, I am going to attempt to give them a paint myself. I am going to go with Retributor armor gold - I have 2 primed now.

Silver trim and black bolter casings. green runes if I can do it, and green eyes.

I am unsure on the alternate color panels for now, we'll see how it goes.

I am having someone work on the Tzaangors (I hope). I want them to look like mini lords of change.

Base wise - I was thinking sand / desert kind of bases.

I plan to find someone to do Ahriman for me, I want him in his classic colors. He'll stand out from the army /marines but should still be fine if the bases tie them all together. I guess we'll see. that is the plan for now.

IF we get a release in Aug, then I plan on buying the box set, codex, cards (maybe?) whatever the bundle is. I don't know that I'll even use the Tzaangors as of right now but three squads of Rubric marines should be good. I kind of assume the box is going to have the new HQ choice, 10 Rubric Marines and probably some Tzaangors but I guess we'll see.

The GK vs Sons box will definitely have an HQ in as a new unit/model has been confirmed. The rest is anyone's guess! The Datacards are really useful for gaming so I'd get them if you plan on rolling dice to any degree :)

Hey Inkaras, any luck with the Sons?

I know you were having paint issues, since then I've put together a catalogue of alternate, possibly easier to do, schemes, if you're interested.

I am having someone on here painting them right now. Classic scheme and he mixed in a little purple wash on them. They are looking good. I am going to base them myself. I don't know what I'll do in total. Right now they are good for Kill Team 2. I am very on the edge if I want a whole army of them or not. I'd have to learn how to paint them myself really and I've been having trouble with necrons which are pretty easy. Plus, I've not seen a battle report online where I really like what I see from them in big 40k.

I've had fun with my Sons in the previous KT :) Not the most rounded of forces, but they got to feel tough and dangerous as they should - hopefully there is more of this and improvements in the new incarnation. Keep us updated on both games and models :tu:
