Hey guys,

C+C much appreciate. Explanations in red.

Deathwatch Battalion Detachment

HQ

Captain on Bike

- Dominus Aegis (storm shield w. 5++ aura)

- Power Fist

Mostly in the list to give the 5++ aura, but the rerolls and power fist definitely help justify the cost.

Primaris Chaplain on Bike

- Master of Sanctity

- +1 to hit for shooting unit

- +1 to wound for shooting unit

- Warlord with Wise Orator

- Beacon Angelis (relic that lets him pull a squad towards him)

Speedy buffer with the Beacon Angelis. Goal would be to buff the hiding Indomitor Squad before advancing his 20" to redeploy the Indomitors, which could potentially fling them just shy of 32" (6 + 20 + 6). With 18" guns that gives them a good threat range, hopefully plonking them in the middle of the table.

Phobos Librarian

- Tome of the Ectoclades (once per game gives all DW core within 6" full wound rerolls against 1 datasheet for the turn)

- Fortified with Contempt (5+++ to one unit - will go on Indomitors)

- Premorphic Resonance (gives a squad OW on a 5+, +1 to hit in combat and fight first in combat)

Not sure about his spot in the list. The 5+++ on my Indomitors is a huge help, but does put even more eggs in that basket. Original reason I included him is because I needed another character to carry the Tome.

Troops

Spectrus Kill Team

- 5 infiltrators including a Helix Adept (1st failed save for squad is ignored)

- 5 eliminators w. Las Fusils

There to take an early claim of the centre of the table. Hopefully hidden, but if not they are pretty survivable. Smokescreen for -1 to hit, plus camo cloaks, the Helix Adept and denying DS within 12". Decent firepower too with the fusils. Obsec, tough to shift and decent damage output.

Indomitor Kill Team

- 5 Heavy Intercessors, 4 w. Hellstorm Bolt Rifles and 1 w. Hellstorm Heavy Bolter

- 5 Inceptors w. Plasma Exterminators

- Kill Team Dominatus (re-roll 1s to wound against Elites)

The centrepiece of the army, built for maximum ranged damage. Will start in hiding (hopefully in a building but in the unlikely event there is nowhere reliable to hide them for some reason, they will need to go in the Teleportarium) and be shunted to the middle with the Beacon. With 5++, 5+++, T5 and 3W with 5 HI meatshields they are fairly resilient, but will still be target #1 for anyone who doesn't want to die. Can fall back and shoot for 1CP.

Fortis Kill Team

- 4 Intercessors w. Stalker Rifles

- 1 Hellblaster w. Heavy Plasma Incinerator

- Intercessor Sgt. w. chainsword

- 4 Outriders

There to get jobs done. Outriders and the sgt do their usual "bikes as infantry" shenanigans and go charging around (and through buildings) to cap points with obsec and hunt down soft units sitting on distant objectives. 4 stalker intercessors and solo hellblaster to sit on home objectives.

Elites

- Redemptor Dreadnought w. Macro Plasma & Icarus Rockets

Solid all round. Good bullet sponge (especially with the 5++) and packs plenty of damage at medium range. Will charge straight to the centre of the board alongside the characters, Spectrus and Indomitor. I imagine most opponents will choose to ignore them and focus on the troops, and so they have good damage for that role.

- Redemptor Dreadnought w. Macro Plasma & Icarus Rockets

As above.

The list looks great. I play a similar list and did really well vs Drukari the other night. I just want to put out some things to think about not so much changes but food for thought.

Phobos Libby- good choice and he can deploy forward with the spectrums team potentially adding even more durability. I swapped out a indomitus Lt in my list for this guy.

Capt on bike- he should be buffing the dreads durability most of all with the shield. Why bother with the bike? An indomitus captain Is cheaper and comes with a great load out making him durable and just as dangerous with the right or the warlord traits. Maybe give him “Nowhere to hide” so he can pick an enemy unit to not have cover vs your shooting.

Chappy on bike- I have found this guy to be great. however bringing a techmarine buffed the dreads and allowed them to be fixed.

Techmarine could take relic Tome or Vorkhan auspicator for +1 to hit aura vs units with fly. So really good vs dark eldar and Admech lists with lots of flyers. If he is a master he can heal dreads for flat 3. He can also give a dread +1 to hit each turn and with the Paragon trait and brilliant strategist can put a dread back in devastator doctrine for an added -1 Ap to its weapons.

Apothecary - Perhaps to keep the indomitor team alive you could bring this guy he is an elite choice. He can heal 2 a turn for flat 3 as a master and can revive one for free. Huge survival boost. Super efficient since they are 3 wounds and T5.

The only killteam I’m not a fan of is the fortis with the outriders. They will be slow down massively by taking a foot soldier with them even though they will now be infantry I can go through walls. They’re also expensive and can’t use special issue ammo on their bikes. A Proteus team with this set up would be way more mobile, shoot better, and should be cheaper I’d have to do the math. Maybe try switching the plasma to all Assault bolt rifles and assault plasma and no bikes. That’s 15 S6/7 plasma a turn and can move and shoot and even advance with no pluses to hit negating their -1 for moving and advancing before shooting. Plus all the other buffs from characters making them great at shooting anything.

Thanks so much dude, epic response! Really appreciate the food for thought.

The Cpt on Bike is mainly on a bike just for the extra movement to help him keep up with the dreads easily and potentially gun it towards the centre to join the troops if needed. I like the Indomitus one and have a nice model I’d love to use, but just feel like he might not be mobile enough?

A techmarine would be cool but I’d rather avoid 4 characters for the Assassin secondary and think for now the libby will serve me better but I will experiment with him.

Apothecary I would also love, and probably put in place of the Libby who’s mainly just there for the 5+++ and carrying the relic, but the problem with him again is how do I get him to where I need him? With the Indomitor team redeploying with the Beacon Angelis and the Spectrus starting mid-board (ideally) this guy will have to just start towards the front and hope he can advance forward to a useful position, whereas the Libby gets to start anywhere he wants.

The fortis definitely wasn’t in my original plans. I was thinking of just running the popular Proteus with 4 bikes, 1 VV and 5 regular vets, but I had some extra points on my list and thought I’d throw it into making the squad a Fortis instead since I’ve already got some nice outrider models for it and didn’t fancy getting more bikes.

But the Proteus team is probably better, and I’m sure I could find something else to do with the points. The 5 Assault Hellblaster Fortis squad I’ve tried once and was a little underwhelmed but maybe I’ll give it another go. Thanks heaps again for your suggestions, definitely helps me to think about what tweaks I’ll make and experiments I’ll go with.

  • 4 weeks later...

I fairly new to DW but wouldn’t the outriders be better served by ditching the hellblaster and taking a 5th outrider and squeezing the extra 17 points from elsewhere like ditching a couple las fusils ?

I’m doing a primaris only one too and I like this (can’t stand first born models), but can’t get the hellblaster out of my head
