Hello heretics,

I’ve returned to the hobby after a good 15 year break. Something that seems to be increasingly common.

I got back into mini building and painting with the blackstone sets and caught the bug bad again and have thrown myself full hog back into 40k.

I thought I was going to be able to dig out an old 2000 point blood angel army I had way back in 3rd edition to get a feel for the game but after rescuing them from my parents attic… my teenage paint skill leave a lot to be desired and those particular angels should never see the light of day again.

I’m steadily working my way through the chaos start collecting box set and I’m happy to report my painting skills have got much better.

I picked up a copy of the first printing heretic astartes dex off eBay and can see there’s a lot of units missing and the points values etc are all out of date. Is the CSM 2.0 dex up to date or do I need to pick up some other rules books?

Thanks

DB

Howdy!

GW have announced as of today that the new Campaign thingy book coming out will have all of the “newest” Chaos Marine rules compiled into one place.

Obviously the other place to find them is BattleScribe. A very worthwhile App in getting!

That book should be avoided.  I don't think we should be rewarding GW for such practice.

It’s upto the individual hobbyist. If you want a printed book with all the current upto date rules it’ll be perfect.

Hanging on for a codex, using BattleScribe etc is just as valid. Whatever helps people hobby the way they want to hobby.

I'd say the Charadon book would be a good buy for those just starting a Chaos army. For the rest of us it should be a hard pass.

Yeah for those starting, who are not willing to wait an indefinite amount of time before they can play their army of 1W Marines.

I really hope that the two wound update comes soon. Playing vs loyalists makes me really sad recently.

I'm really thinking they are saving chaos space marines for last for a reason. Maybe EC or WE branch off, or maybe something else special.

That would be amazing. Definitely something I would be willing waiting for. But there has been zero rumors or hints about this so far if I am correct.

True. Usually the GW boat is full of leaks. Could be their best kept secret yet. Or could just be more trolling on the chaos players keeping them at 1W haha. Time will tell.

I'm half-expecting this to be the 2 wound update, no announcement, and sell out immediately with GW being wrongfooted because their preorders didn't forecast demand.

Most likely it won't be. They said from the start that each army would get their updated profile with their codex.

my hope is that they are saving Chaos until later, so they can do something with at least 1 of the EC/WE camp, as releasing a codex with them included to then just remove them to their own codex would seem like a waste, although this is GW so..........

Sounds like you got the first version - the 2019 v2.0 codex has all the new units and rules - maybe check that? Otherwise, the 40K App is £1.99 a month, and has all the 8th ed codex rules included, until they are superceded by the 9th ed codexes. Probably better value than searching for old print versions.

I was inclined to agree with you until I actually saw this book.  The Book of Fire is of such low value that no one collecting 40k models should buy this book out of respect for other players.  Buying this garbage is only going to encourage GW to release more trash content.

In case anyone is wondering, The Book of Fire is 3 new sets of 0 day DLC and 1 old set from 2019 packaged up into a book.  It is a grotesque and shameless cash grab.  All the rules in this book should be in a codex and rules from 2 years ago should not be used as filler.
