Tyrannic War Veterans

Working on a marine cadre project with special units or marine chapter specific units.  Such as Mentor Legion Elite Cadre and Tutor, 

 

Do the Tyrannic War Veterans still exist and is there rules for them.  And if not, what would be a good substitute or maybe some rules for them?

They exist, but they aren't really worthwhile.

 

To be honest any veteran unit in the book is probably better.

 

Rules wise they are just Astartes with an extra attack and some bonuses against Tyranids.

I believe the Tyrannic War Veterans cannot have a different Chapter Keyword (been a while since I checked) and thus have to be Ultramarines.

 

Regardless, outside themes against Tyranids they're really not so good. Even then I'd say Sternguard are still better due to weapon options.

 

If you want an elite specialist unit, I'd recommend checking out the Company Veterans and using them to represent what you create. They can have just about any wargear outside bikes and jump packs and are very useful in they can combine Storm Shields with ranged weapons as well as melee. You can use these units to represent your homebrew Chapter Elites nicely.

Was likely just going to use Deathwatch Veterans, was more looking for any special loadouts. What I found is just special bolters so I think Deathwatch bolters with special ammo with work good.

What Chapter Tactics are you aiming for? If you mix Chapters you do lose the benefits of the Ultramarines Chapter Doctrine that does help us in the Tactical Doctrine. Moving about without penalty and blasting out double bolter shots at long range is delicious.
