No Foes Remain
Greetings children of the Lion, So I've been sorting out my 40k stuff and narrowing down my list of forces to what kits I currently have, among this is a small-ish DA force based around the Dark Vengence box with a few others thrown on top. However I'd like some feedback on the colour scheme as I like it but am not 100% on it, I ran it by a friend and he wasn't sold on the colours used but the changes he suggested would have them be similar to the Disciples of Caliban or the Night Lords's 30k scheme. After a few tweaks to the scheme I got to some that I like but again I am not 100% on, so I thought to myself what better place to ask than here? So below are my three options for the basic 'Line Astartes' scheme. 1. 2. 3. The general background for these guys are that the founder was an Terran, though not one of the firsts but was part of the Host of the Void before the Hexagrammaton came along. After the Heresy they acted as a 'shadow' force for the Legion, scouting out old keeps and bases to resupply the Legion with and 'evicting' any who set up shop there or 'recovering' their gear from thieves. They continued to do this up until the 3rd founding where they ceased opperating as a 'Shadow Chapter' to the Unforgiven forces and acted as a full chapter, taking an old Legion Void Fortress as their main base. With that in mind I wanted to keep a fair bit of the old Legion black but add in some dark blue to symbolise the Void which they roam, so the further a Astartes is promoted the more blue he gets. Veteran would get double blue pads, Sargeant would have double blue pads, blue arm and helmet etc. With the 11th, 12th and 13th companies being their 'Wings' and having their helmets denote what 'Wing' they are from. (Toying with the idea that these guys rolled some of the Wings together, Death and Iron, Fire and Raven, Storm and Dread). So with all that out, I ask for the opinions of my fellow Unforgiven on the scheme and input on the rough background idea I have for them. Many thanks in advance, No Foes Remain. Chaplain Lucifer
For the scheme I like the blue pauldron and arm the best. I would probably keep the backpack black, though. CCE1981
Leave the backpack black. The blue pauldron and arm look great. If you are having an issue deciding, make the blue arm a mark of something. Maybe for your sergeants. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/371198-help-with-a-successor-chapter/#findComment-5726658 Share on other sites
Galthan Ironsturm
I'm agree with our Brothers, Blue pauldron and Arm are great. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/371198-help-with-a-successor-chapter/#findComment-5726666 Share on other sites
No Foes Remain
Thanks Brothers, I've made some adjustments to the scheme and mocked up a new line Astartes, Company Veteran and Sargeant with the revised scheme. Line Astartes Company Veteran Line Sargeant In regards to the 'Wings' I was toying with the idea of basing it on the Company Veteran (maybe not the blue arm) and have the helmet colour relfect the Wing they belong to, stone/bone for Iron-Death-Wing, red with black stripe for Fire-Raven-Wing and a steel with a black stripe for Storm-Dread-Wing. But again, would love to hear thoughts on this version. I think I'm getting somewhere with these guys now. CCE1981
I think you have something! Those little details add so much flavor to any Chapter! Chaplain Lucifer
I dig the new iteration. May I be so bold to suggest a white stripe on the Veteran and sergeant helmet? Berzul
My only concern is with how Blue will look on Black. Looks like a very dark color scheme, and I fear that the blue parts of the model might get lost in the overall color. But, other than that, I think this new iteration looks great. The progression of color to mark ranking in the chapter is also a very good idea. No Foes Remain
I think you have something! Those little details add so much flavor to any Chapter! Thanks, just need a few more paints and I'll be good to get started! And need to strip some models as well... I dig the new iteration. May I be so bold to suggest a white stripe on the Veteran and sergeant helmet? I toyed with the idea of that but I have a bit of shakey hands when painting, mainly due to a skin condition, and so painting lines would be a bit difficult for me. Especially white lines. My only concern is with how Blue will look on Black. Looks like a very dark color scheme, and I fear that the blue parts of the model might get lost in the overall color. But, other than that, I think this new iteration looks great. The progression of color to mark ranking in the chapter is also a very good idea. This was all based on a scheme I ran my old 5th ed force with but they were just black with midnight blue and silver trim which the silver helped break up the blue and black. Though I think kantor blue is a bit brighter than that, but I could always go with a lighter base colour before putting the blue on. The progression colours was something that interested me about the Astral Claws, as they go up in rank they go from pure silver to lapis pads then gold trim and I wanted to emulate that in this chapter as it's something that isn't done very often. I know codex Sargeants have red helmets, veterans white but I wanted something a bit more. It was also an idea from a binned Ultra Successor who added more marbel colour/effect as they increased in rank, I then found out how hard that is to paint and binned the chapter but kept the concept. bigtrouble
I love the idea of painting more blue for promotions. That has a cool knightly feel too it, but is a little twist. Nice! Charlo
Looks great so far! My only reservation with silver trim is that it starts to look a bit like Deathwatch. I think blue arms are a great idea though and Primaris minis especially really look good with different coloured arms.
