I'm working on some Bullgryn, I am doing the yellowish/black hazard stripes on the shield edges.

I have them base coated black / some form of yellow (picking up a project I started long ago).

What is your go-to formula for the black / yellow stripes?

Do you wash the yellow at all or just highlight it?

My method is pretty simple, but I'm not sure if it's the most efficient way of painting yellow stripes. First I start with Zandri Dust over the whole area, then I apply Iyanden Darksun (An old desaturated yellow from the Citadel Foundation range, the conversion chart says Averland Sunset is the closest match). I may also bring the colour up to Yriel Yellow if I'm feeling fancy. Once this is done I apply Seraphim Sepia as shading (normally the underside of cables. I use orange/cream hazard stripes for larger hazard stripes in my army). Once this is complete I block in the black using Corvus Black. I'd then do a thin highlight of Administratum Grey.

Unfortunately I can't see any close-up photographs of the striped cables I have painted. There's probably people who can do a better job than me in fewer stages but this is the method I have started and continue to use. I suppose using Screaming Skull rather than Administratum Grey when doing the final line highlight would pull the two colours together better but I've just got used to using Administratum Grey for both the black and the yellow.

Duncan did a video on painting Iron Warriors, with hazard stripes on one shoulder pad and one leg - don't know if that's any help?

I torture myself by doing Hazard stripes, I really hate using yellow and as someone who has arthritis, free hand is not fun, but here is my take on hazard stripes.

Black prime, two-three layers Desert yellow (Army painter), carefully take make the stripes with Black (vallejo), and then wash it Seraphim Sepia (GW) And then highlight and clean up with desert yellow.

Dunno if this'll be relevant to you, but seeing as no one's brought it up I might as well mention model masking tape is perfect for hazard stripes and simplifies the process to a ridiculous degree.

As for my recipe? Averland sunset, bright yellow as a highlight, then smother the entire model in a 50/50 Nuln/Agrax wash.

I usually undercoat the area with Averland Sunset, layer up various mixes of Averland Sunset ans Flash Gitz Yellow, then draw the black stripes. Depending on how clean I want them to be, I shade them with Reikland Fleshshade, add some scratches, pigment powders or other gunk.

Masking tape is convenient when you're not doing stripes very often. Over the course of painting my IW, I quickly found out I'm faster just doing them freehand.

Absolutely 100% always wash with Seraphim Sepia or equivalent. It makes for a warmer yellow and suggests staining/wear for neglible effort.
