Top: Square = LOS blocking terrain [ruins]

Question in a nuttshell.
If my friendly unit, only has Line of Sight on a character is it able to target it if there is a unit behind the terrain outside LOS with the bodyguard rule?

This situation came up in a 2 vs 2 match with my friend his SoB Morvan Vaul? With some sister unit nearby.

His character was inside the terrain shooting at random stuff whereas he claimed we couldn't target said character due to the bodyguard hiding behind the building beyond LOS. Is this true? To me it seems that I am not able to target him if the bodyguard unit is near, but if I can't see the bodyguard unit then the character is the only eligible target for me.

Your opponent was correct, you can't shoot the character if they are within the Bodyguard aura. You can't even overwatch the character when it charges.

LoS doesn't matter when it comes to either Bodyguard rules or regular Look Out, Sir.

While Oxydo is likely right, how the rules interact would depend on the exact wording of the "bodyguard" rule in question.  Can you quote the rule for us or refer us to where it is located?

Or was there no specific unit rule in play and simply the application of the  "Look out sir!" rule that is/was in question?

Bodyguard: While a friendly SANCTIFIED CHARACTER or <ORDER> CHARACTER unit is within 3" of this unit, enemy models cannot target that CHARACTER unit with ranged attacks.
