Dominoris
How are we doing this? On page 73 it says if a priest has the cult imperialis keyword it picks a hymn from one of three listed. On page 104 it only gives the Preacher Hymns of Battle, unlike the Missionary on page 97 that explicitly say "and one other." On top of that, if you use the GW's 40K Battle Forge app, it forces you to pick another hymn for Preachers. RAW ... we are given permission to take one of three hymns on page 73. While its mention is absent in the datasheet, it does not deny the previously given permission. RAI ... I think it is fairly obvious the Preacher gets one of the 3 hymns, especially because that is the way Battle Forge forces you to play. I will say locally we are going with the app over Battle Scribe so I don't have a problem with using Hymns. However I have seen people mention that Preachers cannot take an extra Hymn. Is this the consensus? I do plan on playing games outside of my local area from time to time and want to be sure. Slasher956
Only skim read it... but is it the Priest has Hymns of battle to start with and can replace it with one of the 3 where as the Missionary takes Hymn of Battle + 1 ? Bonzi
It will likely be a FAQ at some point but my assumption is the Missionary as an HQ has access to the basic hymn + 1 of the first three while the basic Priest model comes stock with only the basic war hymn and nothing else. If both got hymn + 1 I can't think of many reasons outside of force org that I would take a Missionary over the Priest with the flamer/chainsword combo. painting.for.my.sanity 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/371305-preachers-and-hymns/#findComment-5731302 Share on other sites

There is that. It's probably better to assume it's a bug in the app and just ignore the Preachers extra hymn. I really only want the +1 attack for my Repentia anyway. ThePenitentOne
The issue here is confusion between Priest, which is a Keyword, and Preacher, which is a unit. The relevant text on page 73 is "generate the additional hymns (if any)" (Bold added for emphasis) The Priest Keyword includes Missionaries, Preachers, Dogmata and Dialogi. All four of them know War Hymns. You check their datacards to see if they quilify for additional powers. The Missionary, Dogmata and Dialogus all do qualify for extra powers. The Preacher does not. This is also not the only reason you might prefer a Missionary over a Preacher; in addition to having an extra hymn, the Missionary is an HQ choice. The Preacher is an Elite. As for the APP, I think it' just an error. The dex is pretty clear.
