I usually give GW the benefit of the doubt on many things. I'm patient and I don't sweat their small stuff. But they screwed the pooch IMO with the Grey Knights release.

Since a few days after the release of the new GK codex, the Terminator box has been not "Temporarily Out Of Stock Online" but "No Longer Available Online". A couple days later the Nemesis Dreadknight went the same way, and then Voldus.

It's expected when a codex launches that their model selection will take a hit, some models will go to "Temporarily Out Of Stock Online" quickly (and then re-stocked in a few days to a week or so) ... but to immediately go into "No Longer Available Online"?

Come on GW, pretty weak.

By the looks of things, this is due to these kits getting re-packed in boxes with the new 40k logo etc. So they will eventually be restocked. But you're right, the planning to get the re-boxed kits ready should've been better coordinated so they dropped the same time as their Codex.

On a similar note I think they're producing a ton of Kaldor Draigos before they mark him as back in stock. A few days back I got an email notice at midnight that he was back in stock. I didn't see it until around 12:20 am ... and he was already sold out when I went to buy him. lol.

More likely GW just used up all the old boxes and are just making the new ones now. Doesn't make much sense to re-box existing inventory when you could just clear out the lot before you make more with the new box.

It's been a thing since the start of 8th ed that GW has massively underestimated the popularity of their game and models. Good units have been in and out of stock like never seen before, then you throw in stuff like the pandemic messing with production capacity etc.

Most companies are the same. Look at Apple. They tend to restrict sales of new model iPhones to one per customer at release day. Likewise, Sony didn't make enough PS5's.

Given how hard it is to plan logistics in the current shipping crisis, I would be hesitant to point fingers.

Can I also just point out that both the GK Terminator kit and the Dreadknight feature in the upcoming Combat Patrol box, and it is not unusual at all for kits that feature in bundles to go out of stock just before those bundles release as GW diverts the stock in to filling those boxes.

You know full well the complaints we see here would be a lot worse if the perception was that GW were not packing more discount Combat Patrols so they could push more full price individual boxes.

That makes me day brighter!

That also might be an explanation for what happened?
