I thought I had already posted this, but I really think adding the pod back in is going to help a lot. It gives you a great way to take the initiative back, and it forces them to make some tough decisions when you go second. 

I am wrapping up the initial field tests for this list idea and will be testing a different version soon.

In the Copenhammer league I lost round 3 on Sweep v Sisters

I went first and he had some crazy hot dice for his invulnerable saves all game

Couple of long charges for him and unexpected saves shifted a close game to his favor

The 4th and final round was a forfeit due to time zone conflicts

In the T5S2 GT I have round 5 this weekend v Deathwatch

I am 2-2 currently so I need to take this game to end with a winning record

My thoughts on the initial tests

-Too many bodies to keep safe

I found myself unable to deploy my entire army on many maps because I simply have too many bodies

I started reserving too much and losing field position

-MSU shooting can't be buffed

I liked the versatility of the army but I had no super buff hammer unit to kill something

Facing a 10 man TSon terminator unit at long range exposed my weakness in this area

So I made some changes for draft 2

The core of the list is basically the same

Big change is removing the suppressors + eliminators

I replaced them with a LF DP of 4 grav + 1 MM + cherub

I brought the company ancient back as well for random firing on death

Small changes

-I changed back to original SW b/c I want to play with Arjac (I used a GW voucher and finally got to add him to my collection)

-I upgraded the whirlwind to see if I can actually kill things

-Gave the CM a TH/LC combo just for funnsies

-Removed the reliquary of gathalmor and swapped to the wulfen stone

-Had to downgrade a WG unit to skyclaws to save points

I woke up and saw the league had launched and my opponent was asking if I was free. Said sure why not and immediately jumped into a game at 430am (I woke up earlier than normal for no reason)

Buffs spawn on right and warp times it into my wolf to kill it

He also casts a spell that reduces my whirlwind to short range. I can't reach the entire board anymore

The spawn are in warptime charge range. I realize my CM is in a real crappy spot and can't help

My whirlwind is also in a bad spot and can't make them fight last


I decide the only way to stop the spawn on left flank is the DP


CM generates a CP

DP comes in and rolls horribly against spawn

I have the culexus in front of the DP to eat psychic and force him to shoot me and activate ancient



Wulfen and CM only kill 4/5 spawn in melee (despite using executioners reroll all for Wulfen)

Spawn does 4 wounds back to CM (needed a CP to prevent dying...rolled 2-2-2 originally and was sweating bullets)


I get the objectives and score stranglehold

I have also setup my next round of reinforcements to attack

Arjac and eradicators need to kill terminators or a dread when they arrive

I desperate breakout the whirlwind and fall back with infiltrators so I can shoot the terminators

Arjac and eradicators drop on a suicide mission with LOS

Eradicators fire killing 4/5 (lose LOS so no double fire after)

Skyclaws will need to charge in later or he can do a ton of damage with his heavy weapon


Arjac kills spawn in middle with hammer to clear him off objective (this made us both laugh)

DP kills 2 cultists with bolters

Infiltrators and WG krak kill his 2 spawn


Chaplain and friends all go into his cultists...I only leave a CW in rear to hold objective

Getting better against TSons but still lost


OBSEC from his terminators cost me big this game

The 9" charge turn 2 that tied up my whirlwind

The turn 3 touch of objectives after I removed chaplain and OBSEC bubble



I think sending my my DP turn 2 was the big mistake. I didn't need it there and I forgot the entire point of the unit. It is supposed to be a counter attack unit to remove ranged threats (like terminators)

Throwing it down against spawn (bad target for the grav needing 4's to wound and only doing 1 damage to a 4 wound model) was not a wise usage of them. The MM could have made short work of him but I just didn't get lucky.


What I did like was my experiment with a single culexis as my only dedicated anti psyker.


TSons don't have lots of shooting. By placing the culexus in front of the forces I drop down I am daring him to kill a single character with his limited shoot resources and setting up a good trade. If I had kept my DP in reserve I could have capitalized on that.


Something I will have to practice more of in the future


I did like the sky claws getting executioner buffed every time. They were like discount WG and made me smile


I'm always a little surprised to see full squads of spawn. From a raw stats perspective I would think they would be more popular, but it seems like most TS players use them more like cyberwolves. 

 

The changes to your list did seem to have an impact though, and it was a lot closer than your other games with TS.

Haven't been playing much but I did have some updates.

 

Played the new meta Drukhari list for a team tournament match and got obliterated.

 

They take Talos and Cronos and have high T and high wounds with invulnerables and a 5++ FNP

They also have -1 damage ability

The ability to tank can spike and ruin plans

 

I sent wulfen in with keen senses and savage strike (hitting on 2s with THs and wounding on 2s)

8 TH attacks resulted in 10 TH wounds (double exploding 6s yay)

However...after the saves and FNPs I killed 1 Talos and put a bunch of wounds on the  other (20 potential wounds were reduced to 12 total)

 

They are some big tanky bois and can also be healed for flat 3 by their Haemonculus fleshcraft support characters

 

I think it made them harder to kill than a standard knight

 

Keep an eye out for that new Drukhari flavor

Also...tweaked my goethi slayer list in the meantime and feel it does better on the official GW terrain and current meta

The "alpha strike" meta is a thing and I decided to lean into it more.

 

It won me a game against astra militarum with 2 full payload manticores when I won the roll to go first

I pushed my front line units up into whatever they could tag

Dropped both pods and killed what I could then just keep shoving my units into melee with all the guard bodies

It's good to read about the Goethi Slayers battles against the new meta! The rises of the haemonculi coven looks very hard to counter with Astartes, but I'm really happy to see that you are not throwing all your eggs in the Dreadnought basket.

 

Looking at the previous iteration of your list I'm guessing the Eradicators were cut to make room for the new Longfang squad. Are you still running Arjack with the list? Keep us posted.

This was my pre game planning deployment

He used the forward deploy stratagem and took top right with rubrics

I put BOTH infiltrators bottom left to lock it down and prevent a crystal teleport

All the melee is safely behind a wall ready to fight over the middle objective

His army is built to deny scoring. Abhor is hard b/c no MSU units

He also can bring models back from the dead.

I knew early I had to hit things full force and take his counter punch while denying as much LOS as possible

It was a blood bath as predicted

Turn 1 he killed 1 cyber wolf

In response I dropped my MM pod within 12" and killed 4/5 spawn. I rolled 3 1's for damage and wasted some wounds on stupid spawn...the last guy had 1 wound remaining so with cherub I fired at his rhino instead and dropped it to 5 wounds.

My artillery ignored the surviving chaos spawn with 1 wound so i could get an easy grind later in the game. Fired at rhino to weaken it further...went nuts and killed it instead

In the charge phase I sent my fully buffed WG into his other chaos spawn holding the midfield to easily kill 5/5 and steal the objective to score direct assault

The WG were carefully positioned to be more than 1" from the wall to force him to kill me in melee. They were now acting as bait to pull him closer to me so the wulfen could reach them as needed in the following turn.

Good round 1

Killed 9/10 chaos spawn and a rhino. Stopped his grind and left an easy kill for a following turn

Turn 2 he wiped my WG and LFs but had to bring his guys in close to do it

I was able to launch both wulfen and reach his scarab terminators and wipe them out

Bad news is he got grind b/c I had to put so much effort into that large unit

Turn 3 he killed 7/10 wulfen but my other stuff was well hidden

I was able to maneuver around and wipe out his small survivors to stop grind and steal some objectives from him

Big move was my terminators waddling into a unit of rubrics and wiping all of them with help from savage strike and chaplain reroll all

Turn 4 he killed a few models but couldn't do much b/c his units were so far back and I had taken and blocked off middle

I killed 9/10 rubrics and kept road blocking

Turn 5 he ran away to try and deny secondary points

I chased down the final rubric survivor and that was my last kill.

I had a chance to kill ahriman and his sorceror in melee but if flopped the rolls bad

Big fails of the game

Turn 2 my grav pod only killed 5/10 rubrics only because he used -1 damage strat and rolled well for saves

Turn 2 terminators failed their 7" charge with a reroll into the same unit

This stopped me from shooting him off an objective and swung direct assault + grind + primary jumped from 5 to 15 (16 point swing in his favor)

Turn 2 Wulfen made it into scarab terminators with emperor executioners stratagem to reroll hits/wounds...killed 3 terminators total (he rolled HOT for his 4++ invulnerables)

Turn 3 grav team failed to kill 3 rubrics from the SAME squad that were the only survivors

Big wins

Turn 2 Wulfen unit #2 swinging into the same terminator squad. Used death to the traitors stratagem for reroll all hits and the THs rolled 5 6's

His dice luck ran out and the THs alone wiped the squad

I had shut down the terminators with my whirlwind to get this moment off where I could charge without being overwatched and dog pile him before he could swing...well worth it

Turn 3 cyberwolf made a 10" hail mary charge into the final rubric standing with 1 wound remaining

I pushed 1 wound through and he rolled 2 for armor save

That swung the points back in my favor for direct + primary scoring because I figured he would live at that point (13 point swing in my favor)

Side note...culexus shoved directly into his face shut down quite a few smite attempts from the little guys and was a general annoyance

I went 2nd which made stopping his grind and guaranteed last turn scoring big changes to the game

I was able to slow play turns 1 and 2 to keep him off the scoreboard juuuuust enough before I committed

Probably was too safe turn 2 b/c the grav pod fail blew up in my face.

Huge SW victory for me...first time beating the competitive TS lists
