So with the possibility of a scale increase on the horizon, would anyone object if I used 40k chaos space marines to model late Heresy Word Bearers?

This is only if the scale increase happens and I understand if someone has objections.

Im mainly looking for some feedback and recommendations.

Personally, it's not something I'd have issue with for late-heresy, even if there's no major scale increase! The models are just generally better proportioned, especially as 30k models are drifting in that direction anyway.

Honestly the scale creep is only a problem for the cohesiveness of your own models. If you do an army of all csm models it shouldn't matter, just like using plastic rubrics or slightly de-nurgled death guard.

It's no one's responsibility to match the chosen scale of their opponents; the old resin is different from calth/Prospero, which the new resin is different from again.

I say go for the models that appeal to you most.

But what I’d do if I were starting Word Bearers is MIX the chaos space marine with plastic heresy kits - whether new or old - you can create some great and unique stuff this way that looks perfect for the late heresy. Check out @Kizzdoug’s Son of Horus as an example, or even some of the ideas for Fallen in White Dwarf.

I’d echo the thoughts of those so far: if you like it, great! I would say that LameBeard’s suggestion is closest to what I’d like to do too: mix up the kits and make some Word Bearers fit for the latter stages of the Heresy, with variations of marks and equipment. I actually think the subtle variations in scale add to the characterisation and individuality of any force, so I’m never adverse to mixing plastic and resin components in my forces.

Either way, we’d no doubt all want to see the progress with whatever you do!

Echoing what the others have said, if you want to, go ahead.

Honestly, out of all the Traitor Legions, the Word Bearers are the perfect ones to use the new Chaos Marine kits for a Late Heresy/Siege of Terra design

Honestly, I've seen it done before and it looks really good. I've considered it myself, to be honest.

One of my favorite Hobbyists, The Forge Temple, has some really excellent Gray Word Bearers and utilizes the new Chaos bodies to make his MK V marines. I'd honestly recommend maybe using the proper MK V shoulder pads instead of the Chaos ones, but that's just my personal take.

They'd work for the Sons of Horus too I figure. You can see some of the modern chaos iconography on the new Preator and Maloghurst. Command retinue made from Havocs, Veterans made from Chaos marines would look fantastic and fits pretty well with the Siege of Terra lore where alot of the traitor forces were nearly unrecognizable due to thier corruption even in the eyes of some of the other traitor captains.

Im honestly greatful for being given such a go ahead from all of you.

At the moment I don't have much in terms of heresy era bits, but I'm taking steps to blend them a bit better.

For the basic tacticals I'll use the tamer pauldrons. Saving the more daemonic for specialist units/veterans. Then proceed to hate myself as I get to try free handing colchis runes.
