Just for fun, and per faction, which is the oldest model that you can still buy direct from Games Workshop?*

I start the game with Commander Dante

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Blood-Angels-Commander-Dante

Celebrating his silver anniversary at the very least!

* new Calgar or Abaddon or plastic Hive Tyrant etc don't count, only bonafide first issue models please! Finecast counts as long as its the same as the original.

I'm going with a rather depressing 6-way tie for the Eldar:

The Avatar of Khaine / Warp Spiders / Asurmen / Karandras / Fuegan / and 2 of these Warlocksall of which date back to 1993.

I could be wrong but I think the spacewolf runepriest in terminator armor predates the jes goodwin character series (including dante and the phoenix lords)

Maybe the swooping hawks are actually older though.
edit; Looked over it and cant find the age of that terminator, but in contrary what I thought the current swooping hawks are not the same as those predating the phoenix lords... those actually look better and more modern than the current ones.)

Terminator Runepriest isn't that old, Power Armour Njal was the only Runepriest released just before 2nd ed. The metal Wolf Guard Terminators seem to have come out in a slightly later wave around 92 and didn't have any characters alongside them.

The Terminator Runepriest first shows up in the 95 catalogue.

Oldest marine models are these servitors:

Also from the first set of Space wolf releases but none of the actual Space Wolves are left.

..which is in the 1991 catalogue (part 1)

He's definitely one of the oldest you can buy but he's also always been a collectors figure without rules so is questionable as a 'unit in a faction'.

I think the chaos bikes are a little bit older than the berzerkers ( there were older plastic berzerkers but they were of the one piece variety.)

I think the oldest plastic still in rotation might be the old eldar jetbike... while the jetbike unit has been updated both the autarch on jetbike and shining spears still use that old late 90s plastic as their core.

As an eldar fan who wants to build an army, this thread made me sob into my morning cereal

You'll feel worse when you realize that all of the "newer" Aspect Warrior kits (aside from Howling Banshees) are still Failcast...

I'm going to "um, ahktually" here and point out that Dire Avengers are also Aspect Warriors and in plastic.

It is just so depressing. The falcon kits fee old when you build one. Soft details and insane mould lines.

On the flip side, I kinda feel like if they "remastered" the kit rather than completely remaking it (so took the sprues and cut new sharper molds for them in CAD) it'd be perfectly acceptable. The base design is great, it feels like it's just the age of the tooling that's the problem. The Vyper could maybe do with more work due to the exposed crew, but the Falcon would need surprisingly little work to be modernized.

I agree they need new kits, just that they wouldn't necessarily need to be totally remade from the ground up.

I'd argue redoing the sprue and adding in more base options to the kit in gemeral would be nice. Eldar are supposed to have a massive tech lead on most of the races and seeing thay spun out further on the table would be nice. Edited by Fulkes

That's fair, more options would be cool. A vehicle I would like to see get a total remake is the Wave Serpent, specifically to bring the old Armorcast Wave Serpent design back. I absolutely love that design and I'd much rather see it getting a revamp than it being a Falcon variant.

If I recall correctly the Falcon and Vyper are still the original versions, which are some of the oldest plastic kits still available (and THE oldest kits of their size).

The Basilisk uses the updated Chimera hull but the original gun parts, which predate the Vyper by a year or two.

is Dante still metal? If not does that count as being the oldest?

We've already identified the oldest extant model courtesy of @Old-Four-Arms:

...unless I've missed where someone has identified an older model...? :ermm:

OP suggested looking "per faction" so there are plenty more to find!
