So, among the new bespoke WL Traits available to Wolfspear players, there is one that allows a character to always hit and wound on 2+s when shooting at anything that is not a Monster or Vehicle.

While at first this may not appear to be the most amazing WL Trait option, I think there might be some "hidden" builds related to this rule:

1 - Terminator WGBL with Primarch's Wrath relic -- This model can drop in from DS, unload 4 × AP-2 Dmg2 shots at maximum range that always hit/wound on 2+... pretty good for reliably chipping down some enemy infantry holding a backfield Objective or, better yet, getting a good angle to target and possibly kill a key supporting character (like an enemy Apothecary, for example).

2 - Iron Priest with Combi-Plasma, Plasma Cutter, and Flamer -- This guy can pop out of a Transport and put out two Bolter shots, 3 Plasma shots, and D6 Flamer shots that always hit on 2s/always wound on 2s, making him a very solid unit for damaging enemy MSU by himself or evening taking down unprotected characters.

3 - Phobos Wolf Lord - Basically a sniper who always wounds enemy infantry characters on 2s... working alongside a Vindicare Assassin, you could reliably kill an "average" character every shooting phase.

I am not trying to be be confrontational when I say this. Who cares? At most a Captain on bike with a Storm Bolter for 8 shots hitting and Wounding on 2s against models you really don’t need to worry about. I believe you are far better off taking a trait of that buffs more units or shooting.

It’s not that it is bad, just you can get far better than that that will have a better affect with a limited resource (warlord traits).

The WGBL in TDA loadout is 85 points + Relic + WLT.

A Whirlwind with Vengeance Launcher will give you very similar capabilities but will cost 135 points. Granted it does not require a Relic slot and WLT but 50 points is a fair chunk. On the other hand, it can be on the table T1 whereas the WGBL will need to wait until T2 to drop in if you plan to use him to hunt backfield units.

I think the WLT is an interesting possibility that does not cost any points to include. Would that Relic + Lt + WLT be better spent buffing the rest of your army? That probably depends on what is in the rest of the army.

That’s kinda my point. In a 2,000 pt list 50 pts is 2.5% of your points. An LT is variably 1/4 your Hqs, 1/3 your relics, and 1/4 your Warlord traits.

Buffing your Army is variable, but generally about 500 pts of heavy hitters for about the same cost.

A lot of this may come down to personal play styles. This does seem like a good discussion in the pros and cons though.
