After painting Draigo, I wonder whether it's possible to create a detachable "compound" base of sorts, akin to the Lion El'Johnson model, where his base is 50mm, and the rest is as a display feature? And the 50mm base is able to be detached. If it is, does anyone know where I can procure those, and for a 40mm base?

30k primarchs have 40mm bases, not 50mm, so any of the FW primarch bases (as well as character series models like Raldoron, who has a daemon arm on his) are good to go, if you could find some on a trading group or Eggheadminiatures.

Though, some would probably require more work to make other models fit on them.

I managed to make one, it wasn't particularly easy. 3D printing might be a better option!

or find a suitable one you like from Forgeworld and use that.

Good to know, thanks! And that website is pretty promising - I had an idea with Draigo standing instead of the Lion with the pile of corpses, just not sure whether he had the same cut-out as this video (fast-forward to 6m onwards to about 8m).

I've sorted out my resin printer, so if you can find a suitable file, I can probably turn it into a compound base for you

Definitely keen on that my man, I'll start searching! What keywords would my above query be found as? I don't have the exact term to refine my search.

Not quite what I was after.. it's a step in the right direction, but it the display base needs to have a cut-out for a 40mm base, which if I were to put Draigo on it, would look seemless for the base he is on now. Now my bases are fairly basic, meaning it's not hard to make it look seamless but that's the idea.

3d printing something like this would be relatively straightforward; you'd take the small terrain piece, 'slice' off a suitable chunk for the model and attach a standard 40mm template to the bottom of the small piece; then just subtract a suitably deep 40mm hole so you can put the two together in the real world. Add a couple of magnet mount holes for belt and braces.

I could probably slice one up for you if you had one in mind,  though shipping an actual base to aus is probably not feasible from UK!

The trickier issue is finding a larger display base you like as a starting stl to chop up; they tend to be flat (to put minis on) or vertical. Some commercial "scatter terrain " designs could work though, such as txarli's stuff e.g. statues

or titan ruin

or rmprintableterrain

cast 'n' play do some fantasy ones, e.g. that generator

Depends what theme you had in mind, really.

Marines are copyrighted, so probably easier to add them manually afterwards if you wanted the 'pile of dead marines' look.
