now with the new VOW "Uphold for the honor of the emperor" its pretty hard for GW to balance such vehicles. If GW decide to make them cheaper then for most Marines the pointcosts are okay but BT would be OP.

Does UTHOTE work on vehicles? I had assumed it was CORE only. A 5++ would make several Astartes vehicles viable but would be a bit broken if only one Chapter got it.

It does, from the reviews I've watched and read every unit with combat doctrines gets templar vows. So if you take UTHOTE Templars vehicles have 5++ (Thousand Son vehicle also do).

 

So yeah balancing them with points will be a headache granted they could give a lot of vehicles a 5++ now without it breaking anything. That said its not like the existing chapter tactics and doctrines don't make tough already.

I was just lamenting that to some of my compatriots.  IH still have some benefits to running armor, but that 5++ from Uphold is just. . . better.

Redemptors with a 5++ and the Templar combat buffs will be crazy good.

Yeah those will be good, honestly its just a crazy buff in general. As a space wolf player I get exploding 6's in the assault doctrine but I'd trade it for 5++ army wide so fast your head would spin.

the main take away I'm getting from most peoples comments on GW not being able to balance vehicles by points value is that it is a mistake to roll all marine chapters into a single codex. 

I see the truth that lowering the points on "X" vehicle for salamanders would create an issue for said vehicle in Iron Hands, but it seems to me then that the logical course isn't to leave things as they are, unsatisfying for most, trash for a few and over powered for 1 or 2, but to change the system overall.

Vehicles should be pointed differently for different chapters due of their bespoke rules AND to better encourage said chapters lore defined disposition.

The old argument that having separate codex's results in any faqs coming through for one would not automatically apply to another doesn't hold much weight for me.
