Yes, and this was not just a character and an upgrade sprue, which I was harping on about two years ago as the thing i wanted as equal treatment. We've never been this well supplied. Sure, a castellan draco would've been nice, or an alternate loadout for a redemptor (durandal anyone?) Or something like a repulsor crusader... but lets hope its not another 16 years before we're revisited again ;)
Tbh, Draco is actually really easy to convert now. Just take the rebreather head from the new Marshal the Indomitus Marshal body, and slap an auto bolt rifle in place of the shield on the left arm. Edited by Brother Adelard

I'm more interested in what Laeroth has to say than any of these reviewers. I don't know how long they've had the book, but probably not the half year something he has had it? Though getting hard deets should possible finally.

Oh, I have so much to say. So much to talk about. The combos in this book are awesome. We have so much play now.

I have the codex now. I changed my mind. Although its very very sad that we lost advance+charge. We are an absolutly different army now. Not that fast but very tough.

The Black Templars are dead. Long live the Black Templars!

Any suggestions on how to build my crusaders? It seems like melee will be the best build, but shooting with shotguns seems like fun.

Always go for what you think is best model wise, you gotta make, paint and stare at em. Melee initiates with shotgun neophyte seems like a cool idea, especially with the shotgun strategem for damage 2.

I've been building my primaris ones with chainsword and pistol as neophytes have the same offensive output in CC as an Initiate. I'm likely going to kit out two of the Initiates with power fists. Though its likely I will be running at least one 20 blob as you can make them very survivable. Thankfully the kit is great and you get more than enough for all options.

Shotguns are cool but without the strat they are just the same as the bolt carbine with lower range. Honestly I think there are better places to use your CP so I'm likely not taking any if I do ranged Crusader squads.

I just realised you can make an insanely powerfull Marshal.

2 warlord traits: Imperiums sword and Master of arms + the relic: Aquila Immortalis for 9 atk str 6 d2 on the charge that hits on 2+(also you are T5)

Or

2 warlord traits: Imperiums sword and Master of arms + the relic: Sword of Judgement for 8 atk str 8 d3 on the charge that hits on 2+

I'm going to be running mine as Powersword SB, max Pyroblasters, all chainswords for the rest of the Initiates, and all shotguns for the Neophytes. As I lose models to shooting I'll take out the guns until I have a tight core of all melee by the end. It's hard to pass up the ability to toss 12 flamer shots down range from a single squad, and the d2 shotguns are attractive for hitting something harder than it expects before the charge.

That, and probably enough extras to swap to full melee.

I am a little unsure of how the loadout upgrades work in the primaris crusader squads. please read the wording in the roster

For every 10 models we get access to pyroblasters and/or hbp+powerfist on initiates, yes?

so if we take the following examples, what do they entail?

  • 9 models total. Zero access to pyroblasters or fists. correct?
  • 10 models total. Access to one of each? or do we get any two?
  • 20 models total. Access to two of each? or do we get any four?

If we get to mix and match, I would find a maxed out Pcrusader squad with four powerfists to be very tempting!

You can't take less than 10 models to start. At 10 you can have one of each, two of either, or neither.

At 20 models you get up to 4 of any combination of powerfist and/or pyreblaster.

I had missed that primaris neophytes are mandatory. Cheers for the heads up.

I will defo need a 20 man blob with fists. Oh my poor wallet!

So correct me if Im wrong regarding Crusader Squads but in a 10 man squad you can have two power fists plus the Sword Brethren power weapon? That is tasty if true, not sure if its good but leaning heavily into that for a horde of intantry type of list or a 20 man with 5 power weapons to outflank might actually be decent if not good.

Anyone seen Emperor’s Champion rules? I haven’t seen much about him in the reviews yet

Cant take relics but can have any BT warlord trait. Has a slash and stab attack profiles on his sword. Mostly the same other than that. Primaris one has extra wound and attack I think.

One of the top Character killers in game, imho. I dont think he is an auto-include in any list, as he does not buff anything.

But he Is hard to hit, gets to choose 1h or 2h style fighting (affecting strength), and against characters, he strikes first and rerolls to hit and to wound.

Yup. And at 20 you can have 4 power fists.

Think im going to drop an email to the FaQ team to open up access to power axes and power swords on the crusader squads for the initiates.

I feel like the power fists are going to must takes if we're taking AAC. If we can't fall back, we need to make sure we can kill the things we're in combat with. Those power fists will be good for preventing tar pitting.

A 20 man primaris squaf can have 4 of them on initiates. Might be expensive at 10 points a fist but anything in melee with a max a melee squad gonna have a hard time, from the barrage of chainswords and power fists. Put sword of Judgement on the sword brethren and go charge everything.

Thats actually a good idea, I'll send one as well next week.

I'm suprised not one talking about the High Marshall, he seems like an auto include now.

No one's talking about him because he's absolutely an auto-take at 160 pts.  It's cut and dry, and there's very little to discuss. He's a beast.

While you're at it, maybe see if we can take all the Sword Brethren wargear options on any Sword Brother or Primaris Sergeant. That'll turn that kit into a veritable upgrade kit for the army at minimum. Also there is no good reason why you can gibe a chainsword to the Sword Brother in the unit. His alternate model can have one!

We also need Grimaldus' servitors addressed because RAW they count as characters and give up points, Reverent Acclamation RAW lets you stack all the vows on a unit if you want, and Paragon of Fury RAW gives you +1 strength permanently everytime you charge.

Ace and Laer are great content creators, and it's clear they know what BT should be and have had a great, influential vision for it.

I also think, at times, Implausible Nature is a little bit emotionally attached to their vision of Black Templar, to the point it blinds them as to the objectivity of some things.  I've been following the conversation on IN discord server at length and Ace has thrown out some absolute headscratchers at times.
