Start with painting the rest of the gun. Leave the coils black.

Then use thinned white ink in between the coils.

Then airbrush white ink lightly around the edge of the coils.

Then with a transparent(in this case Cerulean Blue Hue) all over. 

Touch up some of the coils with a dark blue if needed.

Some use white ink again in the recesses of the coils but i find thinned white liquid pigment flows better into the recesses and leaves a thinner like.

Dot white highlight on the darkest spots on the coils.

 

Seems like a lot of steps but its actually quite fast and easy.
