This is purely speculative, but with all the character we can add to our new models I feel like they would be perfect fodder for unique kill team rules. If GW were to ever write up a unique Black Templar kill team in White Dwarf or a future kill team release what would you like to see? Would you expect a crusader squad kill team or a small elite team of sword brethren? And how would you expect it to be composed?

I have been thinking about this a lot myself, and I for one would LOVE to see Sword Brethren come to Kill Team, with their unique weaponry and such.

I really can't decide what I would want more, a crusader squad or a sword brethren squad. With the crusader squad you could take three initiates and three neophytes, or maybe swap the third neophyte for a sword brother. It would give us a good environment to use the pyreblaster (assuming it has solid rules in kill team) and you'd get a good mix of ranged and melee weapons to really fit the diversity of a crusader squad. With the sword brethren, however, you have so many unique weapon options that every model could have a completely different loadout and really feel like individual warriors.

That is why I'd personally lean towards having Sword Brethren. I can better make my own lore with Sword Brethren as well with their camaraderie...

Sword brethren for sure. In 4th they were our only infiltrators (buying an optional rule), so they always been my mental image for black templar "spec ops". All astartes are masters of war, so i never felt this was something they couldn't do.
For playing the game with a diverse set of options, I’d choose the crusader squad and any options from the upgrade sprue. Essentially everything can be represented on the models, down to the holy hand grenade. And there’s still a sword brother to lead them, albeit with fewer options. Still, power weapon or fist is good enough, and pyre pistol to cook ‘em a bit before carving or smashing. Forgot fist was only on the initiates, but that’s fine, as it means a fist and sword both in the kill team. Edited by Juggernut
So, looking at the sprues for the Sword Brethren, I suppose I will look into making a kill team of Assault Intercessors, using the models of the Sword Brethren. There are enough chainswords and wargear to go around, and would look great with the Black Templars iconagraphy...
