Hi,

So, considering the schedule for the first phase of the project Kelborn has put up, thought it might be a good idea to compartmentalize discussion around the different factions and the planet.

This thread is for discussing the Space Marine Chapter(s) which will be participating in the project.

So, to start the discussion, I've posted a poll, inquiring whether we should include canon chapters and/or group DIYs (to avoid any feelings of favouritism, I don't think its a good idea to include members' pet projects, for example my own Dread Lords). I've included an option for coming up with a whole new group DIY for this project, but I personally feel that might distract from the aim of the general project, which is to create a warzone and flashpoint series, as opposed to an n-th Index Astartes article.

The second "question" actually has two questions, one with the number of chapters to focus on in the article (three seems to me the upper limit that can reasonably be achieved for a project like this, but feel free to convince me otherwise :smile.: ) and the other about whether the participating factions should be set in stone (like, we know all the chapters that took part in the badab war, it's hard for someone to come in with their DIY and say they were hunting for Huron on Badab) or if it should be a war on a scale where we aren't certain if there may have been chapters that aren't discussed that participated (for example the thirteenth black crusade or Vigilus)

The third poll question is to do with the size of the Space Marine involvement in the Warzone, I don't think it needs any more clarification?

Anyway, please discuss why you voted for which option, and give suggestions as to what chapters you might like to see :biggrin.:

I'll kick it off with: I'd quite like to see a return of the Taurans, but I also liked the look of the Hospitallers, perhaps paired with an Iron Hands successor (if not the Iron Hands themselves), eg Brazen Claws. I also think the Storm Lords have a cool colour scheme. I think keeping it to canon chapters increases the chance of finding someone willing to share photos of their models for such an article, which would obviously make the finished product look cooler. From a more selfish perspective, I have some Primaris marines from the Dark Imperium and Shadowspear boxsets that I'd be interested in painting up for this project, and I'm looking for a challenging colour scheme to improve my skills

My 2p:

I'd agree with putting an upper limit of a few Companies. Much more than that feels unrealistic, unless you are making the scale of the conflict correspondingly bigger.

However, I don't think that needs to limit you to a handful of Chapters? What about having a Crusade force? With each Chapter contributing anywhere between a single squad to a Demi-Company (and/or a vehicle/squadron, etc) you could include many forces.

That way, no one Chapter would overpower the rest of the Campaign? And also that way you might be able to allow a few people's DIY Chapters? Honestly, it seems kind of odd to have a Liber Campaign, and not use any DIY Chapters...

Personally, I like the idea of there an open-ended number of chapters that contribute a squad or two as the conflicting starts and escalates, but then once the warzone becomes a "thing" that a single known chapter (DIY, canon, *shrug*) assumes operational responsibility and sends in a company or two.

Why not using the Indomitus crusade?

It's already set during this era.

A fleet passes by and sends squads of different origin (chapter's, greyshields) as reinforcements.

This could led to a new chapter's foundation at the end of the flashpoint. :)

That was what I was getting at with the "a few companies and squads" but agree that was probably poorly worded

The main reason I was suggesting to not include people's personal DIYs in the text was to avoid any bad blood between members "Why did X get a whole paragraph, when I only got a sentence?" - I'd like to hear if any others have feedback on that question :)

I agree - this would also allow people to mention the campaign in their homebrews, even if the reverse isn't true.

I like it :)

Let's just have every IA writer who wants his or her IA Chapter to win glory in the coming campaign, make proposals for what his or her IA Chapter can contribute. My own Iron-hearted Angels can aid with their (relatively) extensive knowledge of how Necron technology works, and exploit their close relations with the Sons of Medusa and certain AdMech factions (those studying xeno technology) to draw more forces to the Imperium's aid.

As for whose Original Character gets overall command of the Astartes forces, the in-universe (and in-game) answer is to have the various Space Marines vote to determine who amongst them should be leader, with honor duels (in-universe only) serving as a tiebreaker.

Or to make things easier, use a canon chapter as "leader" appointed by fleet command.

That way, we'd have an already existing one which we wouldn't need to flesh out aside from certain characters, of course AND could implement kill squads (just as an example) of Liber chapters without the need to display tons of homebrew fluff.

Just as an example:

1 canon chapter in charge via a DIY character plus his team

X numbers of squads (have to keep the amount of squads reasonable though!), each from a different chapter/ greyshields.

Each team could get a sidebox throughout the entire campaign in each stage of the campaign.

That way, we could narrow it all down and represent Liber chapters at the same time.

WD did that with the Dark Krakens in the June issue which started Flashpoint Octarius.

I am personally very reluctant to bring Space Marine in to the original flashpoint (As we are trying to remain small). But when they do initially turn up it is my opinion that we use one DIY chapter (Any other chapters can be written in after that) as the core.

I think a Xenos equivalent to the Relictors Chapter would suit the theme well. A Chapter that skirts the edge of loyalty by utilizing Xenos artifacts against the Alien
